I wish those Protectorate Guardians had counted towards the gnome killing achievements. It would have made me a little more willing to meet my fiery death at the hand of their...fiery deaths.

Okay, does it actually work? Because I will totally slaughter Bottledowns if it does count for achievements. >_>
Yes, they said when they released those achievements that we would have to go out to the bubble to get it.

It is so hard to explain muds to people who don't use the internet much..."What is that?" "A mud" "A what?" "A fancy chat room."
Daraius2011-01-07 21:11:41
Heck, I have trouble explaining it to my fairly internet-savvy sister, who is the only person I've even considered talking to about this crippling addiction.

Omg yes.
I quit explaining it to people.

"Hey, are you there? Hello?" "Huh, oh yeah sorry, I was writing" "oh, what were you writing?" "I was designing something for this game I play" "oh so you were like drawing a picture?" "...no, see, it's, you know, a text game!" "..." "it's pretty awesome." "If I wanted to read I'd go back to school"

Most people who have seen me playing have thought I was coding something, when I explain it's a game they go oh.
If it's someone who cares little for the internet, I just say I'm playing a game and I'm enjoying myself and they tend to leave it alone. If they start complaining about no graphics, I explain not everything needs graphics to be interesting. Otherwise, why read books!

My hands start shaking during really intense fights, still. And then I can't type. Then I die.

Most of my friends have little interest in video games to begin with, so for those few who have seen me playing it, I tend to just say "I'm playing a video game." and they generally don't ask any other questions.

Cause/effect relationship there as you well know. I was trying to help her identify the person who did it (and turned out being spot on).

This happened to me all of the time when I lived in the fraternity house!
Brother: Hey, did you want to go to the dining hall with me and... are you coding right now?
Me: No, it's a game.
Brother: You're coding for a game?
Me: No, I'm playing the game.
Brother: You're playing and coding at the same time? That's crazy!
Me: No, I'm NOT CODING. I'm playing the game!
Brother: Oh... so like, where are the graphics?
repeat x20 for all of the other guys in the house.

I've actually gotten my brother to play Lusternia a while back, I think he even sort of enjoyed it, but didn't really get into it.
I was playing it over Christmas break back home and he was watching me over my shoulder. Most of his questions were like,
Him: "So...you're ranked 200...out of how many?"
Me: "Around a thousand active players, I guess"
Him: "How does that make you feel?"
Me: "...it's not bad I guess."
He actually seemed more accepting of the fact that it was a real game than before.
