Note to self: design a named weapon, the long desc describing glowing neon script floating over it with a blinking neon arrow pointing at it at all times.

Don't forget to add the obnoxious voice heralding the name of the weapon!

I'm not worried. But I think if you're going to justify something in a negative light and be a drag about it, then your reason for it should make sense.
Just because a guild artifact is part of the canon doesn't mean every person knows about its existence. Likewise, nobody would logically know the name of the swords just by looking at them. How many forestals do you think know what a Temporal Omnihedron is? Furthermore, custom beasts like Turilira and Xischa all have names which you wouldn't know at first glance. That includes even regular players that you've never met. So how is an artifact rapier any different?

It's seeming like you've never encountered illogical pet peeves before. I know that I dislike it when people smirk. Some people find it perfectly normal, others understand it, but I don't think people get bent out of shape about it. If you'd still like to do it though, go for it!
Besides that little comment, I agree that naming custom stuff is an odd thing for me as well, but to each their own.

I hate the sparkle emote with a passion myself. Those damn condescending anime bastards.

GOD, I hate people who use the smirk emote, because invariably they are already annoying. This happens often by people of lower rank and ability, and is very annoying. I also hate the softsmile emote, because it often comes of as EXTREMELY condescending. You say something, and someone smiles softly at you. All they left off was patting your head and telling you to go play with your toys.

I have encountered them, but Lusternia is filled with so many of these things that if I let them bother me I wouldn't be playing right now. I also think its an unfair assessment to say that a player has to be really famous in order to have said items. My character is the protagonist of their own story, who is anyone to tell me otherwise?
The rapiers have a backstory, and how she came into possession of them. All less grandiose in scale than one would initially assume. I enjoy pouring creativity into these things and it's unfortunate that a large amount of people disagree with the method. But I guess you can't please everybody.
Lehki2011-03-08 04:44:50
You don't necessarily know the name of every player you meet. The game is providing you with the name so you have so way of directing actions at that player, since this is a text based game it's really the only reasonable way we have to tell people apart, but your character doesn't have to necessarily what their name is, although everybody just goes with that.

And its impossible to apply that logic to items, locations, and other various instances where suspension of disbelief is required because?
Esano2011-03-08 05:11:04
I personally don't have a problem with names on items, in the abstract. I just have a problem with commas in short item descs.
