What the heck is going on over there now?

Let's put it this way. Lusternia needs a Whaaaambulance. A big one. Like, Avechna's Peak big.

No, people who don't know how things work just need to take the time to find out the details before changing/reinterpreting the law. Either way, problem solved.

Umm, yeah. I just took Vasnier's word for it on that issue. Plus, that wasn't the only issue happening.
Everiine2010-11-21 05:09:11
The issue as I saw it was what the law meant versus what others wanted it to mean. And when it didn't mean what they thought it meant, they were going to raise holy hell until they got their way. I admit that I had to log off because it was hard to play Ev's go-with-the-law-even-if-you-don't-agree-with-it against all the whining without it getting at me the player.

Yeah, sometimes this sort of character concept can be difficult.

It's usually not a problem, because if he doesn't agree with a law, he'll follow it, but he'll go about what needs to be done to change it. Which is not whine, moan, and make a scene until he gets his way. That's what frustrated me as a player.

If it's what I think it is over (specifically regarding Ircria's question in Simple Questions), then all I will say is this:

Typically, a tradeban is intended to prevent indirect assistance or hinder the enemy org in question in some way. Refusing to buy from their villages accomplishes neither of these, and can potentially be a benefit to said enemy when tithe tics come around. You can say what you want about reading the law to the letter, but if you come up against what the intent of the law is, you may be in for a different story.

That was one issue in the whole cluster censor.gif that was today. The issue was brought up by another, and I had assumed they did do research themselves, so I agreed. That was my mistake. Though the reaction by others was, in my opinion, a bit overkill(though I wasn't exactly the most reasonable either)

Eh, it happens. I don't know much of the story beyond that, so we can lay that to rest now.

My twit: more writer's block. Bleh.
Everiine2010-11-21 06:08:57
For me, the issue wasn't even between what buying or not buying in a village actually did. For as long as I can remember, trade bans have always included villages loyal to an org under a trade ban. People have gotten in trouble for shopping in villages before for it. So when the latest trade ban was put in place, no one said "Oh, by the way, we're going to add villages to this."-- it was just assumed by those in charge by precedent that villages were automatically included, and that that was normal. It's just how it's always been. So the sudden outrage was something quite new to me and many others.
Rika2010-11-21 07:05:18
What? No. Villages being in trade bans is the exception, not the rule.

Back when I started playing I was scolded for shopping in villages owned by a an org under a trade ban, so all these years that's just how I assumed it went. Seemed the other leaders had similar experiences or at least thought similar ways.

EDIT: Could have sworn  was an emoticon... too tired now to find another.

From when I started playing, someone once said to me buying all the commodities from an enemies village is better for us than them, we can do more with commodities than we can with gold.

As for my own tweet, I'm so glad we went through the whole thing where I got contested and told nobody had wanted me around and had been begging people to contest me. So glad it was by someone who didn't have a clue, and ended up getting replaced rather quickly.

Yes, I'm a bit bitter, but the circumstances were not nice in the least to me.

It's swell-er when you can actually understand what the hell someone is getting on about. superninja.gif

Part of me is curious and another part of me is glad I don't know what the censor.gif the earlier comments are exactly about. laugh.gif

If I had to speculate, it's the typical "I thought that meant this!" "No, actually" "OMG BUT!" business. Which can either be resolved peacefully or spiral way out of hand, depending on the involved parties.

It really wasn't as bad as other people are making it out to be.

On the other hand... I'm sick of novices/near-novices (re: blatant alts) who complain about us not trying to win villages but never seem to be around to do anything themselves. Anyone who participated in that last Talthos revolt can attest to how hard we were actually trying but for some reason these novices still pop up and find reasons to complain.

People will always complain. The loudest complainers are usually the ones who don't do anything themselves.
