You'd do better with Hexes, since Aeon doesn't stack too well with TempInsan and Badluck.

Really? Hrm That's what I was thought but now that I know I might change then. How many lessons would I get out of astrology if I change to hexes?
What afflictions should I go for with hexes? How does TempInsan work anyway?
Unknown2010-10-21 19:31:26
Actually, you should go Tarot so you can fling Soulless and then just spam Badluck and every carcer-equivalent you have in fights.
Congratulations, you can now easily beat anyone.

Tredian2010-10-22 09:36:30
Just keep target in the room, carcer/slime/greywhispers/badluck then go meteors, tada
Arix2010-10-22 09:39:48
You may want to ask someone in game, people here will just tell you to lolbadluck and snicker at you behind your back
Unknown2010-10-22 12:15:28
Poke the Guild Champion for help with combat. If not, poke the Prelate of Transformation and he'll poke the GC for you.
Dysolis2010-10-22 13:47:47
Don't forget that you can use quicken and truename to hide your soulless fling once you hit 7 rubs. I also finding to use ectoplasm when your sludge worm hits to be useful as well.

Hrm, won't they just sip allheale before you regain equilibrum?

Allheal get's cleanse cures?
Unknown2010-10-22 15:05:54
Hrm, I'm referring to the blackout, isn't blackout cured by allheale?
Dysolis2010-10-22 15:08:18
I didn't know that blackout was cureable. I guess if that's the case then you could use domination to make them sip allheale on an affliction they have or just make them waste it, who knows maybe that's to much of a roundabout way of doing things but like I said I wasn't sure if blackout was cureable.

You'll want combat trans and resilience trans, you need planar up to tesseract, discipline up to focus mind, tumble in environment. Astrology is great utility but I haven't learned to use it in combat because I would rather use more guaranteed skillsets like tarot or hexes. I haven't done hexes myself so I'm not really familiar with that skill but tarot has useful hindering abilities like aeon, lovers. As I said before Astrology is great at utility skill set it also has aeon but again it's not going to affect everyone. I didn't use astrology long enough to figure out a decent strategy but with tarot I would use /fool/tentacles/carcer/aeon/aeon/ectoplasm/sludgeworm/quickening/truename(for blackout)/fling soullless
Ayden2010-10-22 22:05:17
Bug me in game. I can help ya out a bit. I'm a little experience with Astro as a Researcher if you'd like to keep it. I'd say it's still viable though Hexes and Tarot are better options.

Blackout is curable with allheale and any equivalent of allheale, like power cures, demon syphon, and so on.
EDIT: also, there are publicly available systems that cure blackout (like Vadi's system).
vorld2010-10-23 19:12:10
Thank you everybody. Still don't know what tempinsan does tho.
Dysolis2010-10-23 19:45:14
so would forcing them to sip allheal increase chances of having blackout stick?
Ikkan2010-10-23 23:02:58
Allheale is on a longer balance than most other cures. You can truename twice if you realllly want to black them out.
I'm not sure why Kial said that aeon doesn't stack well with temporary insanity and bad luck, it still means that they'll be fighting you at a noteable disadvantage, and with action failure that can be pretty significant.
Temporary insanity is basically an affliction on someone, it slightly increases the chance of an action failing (i think its 2%?). It's cured by pennyroyal, and if you can get them to massive and take their true name, you can illuminate them for an instant kill. Since, unless I read it wrong, you don't have illuminate quite yet, it'll just slow down their curing a little, so don't worry too much about this yet.
Damage killing is tricky as an Illuminati, but you should still be able to stack a boatload of afflictions. Badluck and greywhispers as mentioned before should be thrown on ASAP. You have up to gifted in Transmology, so make sure your Spix is attacking them. If you have nose, as mentioned before, try to use bulbous and stick ectoplasm onto them, this will double balance recovery. With Eyes, go silver and you can dominate them to do things (in particular, you can cause them to tumble or search with ectoplasm on, this'll cause ~7-8s of balance loss for most people). Without an instant kill, you'll need to rely on damage to kill them. You'll pretty much have to cosmic-fire them to death, which might be possible on someone of your might, as long as you keep up your stack of afflictions. Carcer (in cosmic) will help trap them in your room if they try to run, or alternatively, make it more difficult for them to chase you.
I'm not familiar with Astrology, but if you can keep aeon on them, that'll decrease how fast they can sip health especially with all the action failure.

This has been most helpful. changed to hexes now.
@dysolis Why planar up to tesseract?

Drop Astrology, pick up Hexes or Tarot.
I'm biased, though - I prefer reliability and usefulness instead of having the effectiveness of my abilities be decided by a bunch of absolutely inane factors. In general, I also think the array of effects given to Tarot/Hexes are more appropriate for an Illuminati anyways. I got along great with Hexes, and a lot of Illuminati do swell with Tarot. Astrology isn't explored because people know that no class can cover for the weakness that the skillset has.
