Celest's decision to start help people buy systems

Eh, there isn't much to really say on the subject. People who have no idea what they're doing don't need a free system without support. They need support. Support costs credits. Credits cost money. They can use the normal credit sales for skills and such if they want. Celest isn't stingy with its credits. They're there to help players and the more ways we can come up with to help them the better off we all are. As long as it's equal opportunity and fair.

If someone really wants to make an alt, get to CR 3, pay 150k for the credits and then leave to attack us. Eh, who cares really? In the long run they're still playing the game and to be blunt, we ALL should be pretty interested in keeping the entire game population increasing and capable of participating, not just whatever org our characters happen to be in. Hopefully this will help make the game a little more digestable. We'll see.

EDIT: And the cap is 75 credits because that seems the most someone should reasonably have to pay for a system in the current market. They get what the system costs, not the full 75. Right now there aren't any certified systems since the program just started tongue.gif Vadi's probably will be. If others have some out there that are good, maybe they'll make them available. It's not really just about what the current environment is but what it may (and hopefully will) be in the future.

Like I said, I like the idea behind it specifically because it is targeted at mid-tier combatants with protection from alt-abuse and rich-get-richer, so if the Star Council has worked out the kinks, I give a thumbs-up to the scheme.

Edit: Although, I'm quite curious as to what was the rationale for making it a one-time only purchase?
Furien2010-10-27 14:19:56
I'm always baffled to see system coders go at it. I have no chance in hell at understanding anything beyond basic code, so it's all gibberish to me!

"Oh yeah? Well, my system's free."

"My system has multi-threaded kernel processing. Beat that."

"I have DYNAMIC TABLES. In your face."

"As if! Ever hear of localized variables? You don't stand a chance."

"OH YEAH WELL WE HAVE LOCAL FUNCTIONS GRRRRR."

"WE CLEAR OUR CACHE AND REORDER OUR LUA TABLES ON THE FLY SO SUCK ON THAT"

etc

Oh, so if I understand correctly, it is a credit-cum-system sale? So any excess/insufficient credits would be transferred to the person who purchased the credits?

Sahmiam is just upset I skipped out on the two chances he's offered me to give him the system for free. It's okay, Sahmiam.

It is okay, because I can happily live my life without your system. I offered to test it, because I like to test things, not because I need a new system. Had you given me the opportunity to test it, I would have; I would have given you suggestions for improvement and pointed out flaws, but when it was all said and done, moved back to my own. I sleep soundly at night without regret. The one I have works exceptionally well, and thus there is no reason to pay for yours.

You can't deny that you'll benefit from this credit sale thing. However, that's a byproduct of the sale itself. It -is- a Vadi-get-rich scheme, but the choice is whether to stop there or choose a more positive outlook on the thing. I choose to look at it positively and simply call you fortunate.

I have one or two niggles about OOC, but I think it's a great idea.

That does seem to be the main hesitation from those commenting here, most agree it's a great idea t o get people involved.

I'm kind of split. I dislike how OOC it is. I don't think it's borderline. It just is. It's cute that you can smack cover words on but it's just OOC.

The intentions? It seems ok. Though it'll mostly mean that Celest will have slightly longer lasting meat shields around. I think it's a small part of the equation really, effort is going to need to be put into teaching Celest how to fight and probably code. Just because you have a system doesn't mean you can fight and it seems foolish to me to have a system and zero knowledge of how it works. There are still going to be times where you'll want to customize it for yourself or add your own personal pieces to it.

You guys have a whole lot of time and energy to waste it pondering what Celest does with its credits.
Vathael2010-10-27 15:30:30
Hey, at least those credits should get more use than that cubix does.
Eventru2010-10-27 15:34:01
Let's not be condescending. I'm sure people in every org have made poor decisions.

(If you're having trouble remembering them, just ask someone from an opposing org. They're happy to remind you.)
Neos2010-10-27 15:50:50
sad.gif Really wish I could code a system now.

Most people refuse to enter combat due to the lack of a system. With this helping them out, they'll be more willing to actually learn how to fight and get better. If they can't really get credits quickly, sure they won't be at the level of all the arti'd fighters, but they may at least stand a chance when it comes to big raids and such.
Except raids with Fillin. No one survives those.

This entire thread is hilarious for a variety of reasons.

Remember kids! Lets not be condescending or we could break into Grandmother Scorpion and Nekotai again!

I'm starting to think that was the only reason it was created.

Honey, dear, Malicia you wonderful thing, I don't know how to tell you this but, well, you have the most posts in the thread. You've spent the most time and energy.

Hey I told you guys this thread was comedy gold.

Since it's become apparent given individuals wish to be childish and snide, and the purpose of the thread is just to criticize and lash at other players for no substantiated reason - at least, none relevant to the topic - I'm going to go ahead and close this thread.
