On the other hand, you have to admit that talking a lot about Homestuck isn't exactly out of character for our dear Phoebus!
Honestly, I don't think we're likely to get anything good out of what information we have, unless someone suddenly speaks up and says something like "I'M HEARTS BOXCARS, OLOLOL," which would be scintillatingly dumb.

That's exactly why we should be focusing on Phoebus for now. If you're going to sit around and wait for someone to claim "I'm deuce of clubs" (incidentally, that is the card I picked, but it has absolutely nothing to do with my role.) then we're never going to get anywhere. Phoebus is currently the most suspicious character.
Alternatively, I could be convinced to focus on Othero.
It takes him all of 35 minutes to change from "cards don't mean anything so I'll vote for you for claiming that" to being one of the main drivers for "the cards does mean something. Let's focus on them". That also struck me as being, well, off.

Vote: Caerulo assuming the cards mean anything seems like a silly way to start. Cards are just an easy way at randomizing the picks.
QUOTE (Othero @ Nov 8 2010, 03:44 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
No, the cards almost definitely mean something now that I go and look over things. Spades, Hearts, Diamonds, and Clubs are associated with the midnight crew and numbers are associated with the Felt. The felt are 1-15 which is one short of a full deck which is 1-10+Jack, Queen, King, Ace. Then there is also Doc Scratch and Lord English.
If we're playing decode Casilu then that would leave the MC with little room to claim. 4 MC members most likely. Which means the Felt may be missing some members. So yeah, false role claiming might be tough.

Gleip raises some good points, but I'm more inclined to believe that Othero's scummy than Phoebus. While Phoebus may be "hiding in plain sight", Othero seems to be trying to tempt others to reveal information already. Of all the ones idly speculating and trying to guess the mod, he's the one who seems to attempt the most rolefishing.

Eh. I'm not sure if I would call him "rolefishing" exactly. I can see how it can be taken as such, but I'm more cautious of how quickly he changed his mind. He read into Caerulo's answer something that wasn't there, which he later claims to be true on his account, yet for some reason it isn't true on anyone elses account.

Ok, my role seems to correspond to my card. So if I'm the only one I'll back off on the belief they're connected. Otherwise I'm going to believe it.
Okay, so, my role still has nothing to do with the card I picked that I can see, though I still might be wrong given that I don't have any prior knowledge of the theme (the intermission was rather helpful with putting the wiki pages in context, thanks!).
However, I still feel that Othero's posts have been rather off, especially the last one. "If I'm the only one I'll back off on the belief that they're connected" sounds scummy to me, in the 'oops, maybe I volunteered information I shouldn't have, better start backing up' kind of way. If you're townie and convinced that your role is connected to the card you picked, there should be no reason for you to do that.
Ergo, Vote: Othero
Ileein2010-11-08 13:39:13
Hmm. I can see where you guys are going.
I'm not going to vote until Othero gets a chance to respond, though.

No, it isn't rolefishing. As far as I can tell my role seems to have some connection to my card. It's loose, it might be coincidence, but if people are going to guess that the cards and roles are connected I'm going to look and say if mine does or doesn't. I'm comfortable enough with my role to at least say it is connected to the card, I don't think anyone would guess it from that and it gives us some info to look at. And if I -am- the only one who sees a connection why -would- I continue to believe the cards and roles are connected? If I'm 1 of 15 obviously my role and card are a coincidence from the overlap that all of the possible roles have a possible connection to playing cards.
Unknown2010-11-08 13:50:49
And to shorten it up. I wasn't convinced that the cards were connected with the roles. I only saw how my card was connected, not everyone elses. When we are playing with a card theme and picking by cards there is room for coincidence and I was not going to rule that out.
Kiradawea2010-11-08 13:51:10
Right. Logical inconsistency. Hence why I'm eyeing Othero before Phoebus.
Diamondais2010-11-08 14:21:45
Looking at my role and the wiki, I don't really see much connection between my role and the cards. Now given, I don't think I've ever read MSPA aside from the odd time a friend has shown me a page, so I could be missing some connection, but I think the cards were just cards. I can see a connection maybe with the Midnight Crew, they look like they're cards, but we're not all Midnight Crew (Guessing they're the "scum" group?).

However! Phoebus has a lot of posts. A lot of posts that do nothing except talk about the comic, or other only very tangentially related issues. The posting strategy is a common attempt for scum to "hide in plain sight". So my vote goes to the one who has said the most, while saying the least.
Ok, ok, I get it, I'll tone down the incessant chatter about MSPA if it's making you want to kill me to make it stop! My goodness. I just really really (really) like this comic (really) and am giddy about an excuse to talk about the Midnight Crew and the Felt and oh my goodness isn't it all so interesting???
Ahem! Moving away from the "Phoebus is a gushing psychofan" topic of conversation...
You guys all have me getting suspicious about Othero now. So, in order to get the ball rolling, and because slight suspicions and wild accusations are all we really have to go on right now, I will, at least for the time being, jump upon the bandwagon and Vote: Othero.
Gleip2010-11-08 15:31:41
It's making me "want to kill you" because it's not adding much, while creating an illusion of activity. Gush if you want, but make sure you mix it with a little actual speculation.
Ileein2010-11-08 15:42:30
Ehh. I'm not really that convinced by Othero's defense of himself. :/ Sudden pulling back from a strongly held conclusion seems a little... off.
While I'm cognizant of the fact that we're probably bandwagging for no real reason (it's a word!), and we will regret this later, we're not getting any useful information as it is. Vote: Othero, with my apologies if he turns out to be a sacrificial lamb.
Unless I'm mistaken, eight votes are needed for lynch. Othero's got four. I can't be arsed to add up the other votes at the moment.

Hrm, I just realised that Othero has as good as roleclaimed. He picked the card 4 of Diamonds.
He says:
He's as good as claiming to be Clover, who is number four. What do you all make out of this?
On the other hand, Phoebus is looking suspicious too. Voting third on Othero, and giving no reason beyond this:
Whe she had just been told that she looks suspicious because she been basically saying nothing even speculative.
In view of the information we now have, I'll Unvote and see what else we can get.

Unknown2010-11-08 15:59:47
Wait, Othero says:
Which seems to suggest that he isn't saying he is Clover. However, I can't seem to find any character which is 'loosely connected' to four of Diamonds, can anyone else do so?

He's number four? He has a skill related to the number four? He can throw diamonds? There are many ways for it to have a loose tie, too many ways that we can accurately guess his role. If we want his role, we might as well try to force him to roleclaim, but for now, let him defend himself a little more. He's at five votes now I think. More and we risk ninjalynches. And ninjalynching is a sign of the devil.

How is it off? A few other people said they thought that cards and roles are connected, I was the one willing to say that my role and card seemed connected to me. I was then curious to confirm my convictions. People said no, their roles didn't match up. No one gave me facts to confirm my theory so I backed away from it on the idea that I might be wrong.
I had a theory, tried to prove it, couldn't, and now I'm backing down from that theory. So yeah, people are bandwagging for no reason. Instead of pressuring someone upfront with their thoughts and theories we'd be better off pressuring someone quiet or filled with meaningless chatter.

Well, he could also be Diamonds Droog. His card has both four and Diamonds; saying it and assuming we'd think he was talking about the four for Clover instead, while getting other people to possibly give up information on their roles at the same time, might be a pretty smart move.
