Are you trying to seduce me, Mr Masque?

Okay, when I was a kid there were these series of books in our library called "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark." Does anyone else remember these? They scared the living censor.gif censor.gif out of me and traumatized me for a long time. And even today looking at those illustrations I cringe. But I'm trying to read them. I wonder if anyone else felt the same way...

Ha, I vaguely remember a point where everyone was either checking that book out from the library or ordering it from the book order thing we had at school or something. Fun times, I had forgotten about it. I remember enjoying the stories, but for some reason I lost interest in the scary stories thing. Which is weird, because I was hitting the goosebumps pretty hard back when they were cool. laugh.gif

We had these in my elementary school library, and my girlfriend owns a couple of them. The illustrations are horrifying.

I have one word to say, and I wonder if it strikes fear into your heart the same way it does mine:

Harold.

Know whats weird? I got a little chill, but I only remember the name, not the story. shocked.gif

I just re-read Harold on the internet.

Damn.

But looking back now, 90% of it was the illustrations. That censor.gif can scare adults, forget about kids. (But Goosebumps I could handle easily, I read a good portion of them)

My brother used to hold the book open over my head to a certain page while I was sleeping and then wake me up.

Raiha2010-12-18 16:26:39
Amazing, I had all three of those books. They still scare me now as much as they did when I was a kid. Stephen Gammell's art is truly horrifying. And yes, Harold was the worst! Though I really did enjoy "Wait Till Martin Comes," about the cats.

But don't worry, they can't get you as long as you're under the blanket, right?
