Trying to get back

Back to Common Grounds.

So apparently I have this huge wall in front of me that I need to get over with but I can't seem to find any way to get through.

Before my big goal was to be a demigod and probably lay low from Lusternia, but now I'm stuck at titan and don't have the motivation to get level 100. I want to get into PvP but I hate getting artifacts and a good system just to be on par with other PvPers, most of my items have now decayed due to inactivity and I don't have much cash to get them back. I owe a lot of good people back then but I hate asking for more loan, I want to repay them in some way but that means hunting and a chance of losing that hard earned Titan status I've been working on for nearly 2 years.

So that aside, what can you guys suggest? Is there anything in lusternia other than PvP/Hunting/Domoths/Aetherhunt? I can try my hand in writing up stories or get myself working on new lusternian art but I'm also suffering from artist/writer's block. What can I write/draw so that I can contribute to Lusternia's community?

Any advice would do, I really want to play again sad.gif

Roleplay. Interact with people. Get involved with politics and help out your guild and city.

Edit: And as an addition, sometimes the best way to get back in is to stop playing in a goal-based style. Which you obviously do. A lot of Lusternia isn't goal based but the parts that are not are specifically not pvp, domoths, bashing, and aetherspace. Interact with people, rp, make a story, and help people out.

There are always cities looking for players to tip the balance of power in the Basin!

You're attitude seems a little weird - you don't want to hunt because you may lose Titan.

Well, you're going to have to build up that buffer some day, might as well be now. Hunt in non-enemy territories and other relatively safe places. Bash tunnel trash or something.

I'm also getting back into the game and I'm doing my re-purchase of everything (amazing how much stuff I've forgotten), and I'm not sure of your financial situation but if you don't want to bash for gold it really doesn't take many credits at all when selling on the market to get enough gold to restock on supplies. 10 credits at current prices is around 70k gold.

But then again you might have to consider that if nothing sounds appealing, maybe you don't want to play Lusternia after all. smile.gif

You can work up gold for supplies and gear with easy and safe quests/turn ins. Stuff you could do naked with newbie kick if you had to.

Once you're there, start influencing, and sell it off at the market prices. It doesn't get safer than that. You'll slowly plod your way through titan while you're at it.

To build off Rainydays' post, bards/scholars/pilgrims are a no-risk method of getting gold. If you're Celestian, gathering supplicants work as well for more no-risk gold.

If you can't/don't want to influence, once you've got a sufficient amount of gold to purchase supplies like healing potions, do the Grey Moors, rockeaters, cows, etc for easy gold.

Slowly build up until you can afford greatrobes and other such equipment, and then you're set!

That's what I usually do when I return to Lusternia from a hiatus with everything decayed.

Egh, hunt rockeaters, sell them at one village, buy the commodities at that said village, sell those commodities to the highest bidder in terms of communes and cities. While you are at it, influence as well, hunt a bit, I don't know. Honor quests, bards, 1.5k, scholars. 1.5k, pilgrims, 4.5k, every so often. Krokani/aslaran shouldn't be a problem for you, also kill the aslaran pilgrims for extra gold there. Borrow a cowbell if you want, gather the cows and sheep, dock them at one village, buy the milk, sell the commodity. Save up till you can buy and resell esteem, or dingbats. (dingbat reselling has a higher profit than credits, especially when credit difference usually is 200 gold) Quinotaurs, turn them in, sharks drop ok gold. Egh, you shouldn't worry about getting back your gold - it is very easy. Then ask for someone to make you the robes, I'd say Saoirse, or Phoebus as she has the shears. Cheapest gems go for in the basin at this point is 25 gold per cut gem, you'll find aethershops at 35 gold, or 30. Herbs are being bumped up in the prices slightly it seems. You can also write prose, put them in journals, sell them to whatever city/commune wants to bump up their library. And if you want, gamble, but give your gold to a friend if you cannot control yourself.

You should be fine.

This.

Only a part of Lusternia is about raising "the numbers." There is SO much more to do. Become a street/path preacher, get involved in black market schemes, start a tour company, go fishing, enter a trance, start a secret cult... the possibilities are endless when you realize that when there are no numbers, your power is infinite.

1) If a goal is too big, split it up into sub-goals, or find other small goals to achieve that can be done at the same time. A good starting point is getting the gold together to replace your decaying stuff. Personally, I like to gain honor lines. You can get some exp together just doing the figuring out part of quests. And as suggested, blast from the past, do some things like leading scholars and bards.

2) Tell yourself you will just do something for 20 minutes. Set a timer if you like. And go do it. It's basically a mindtrick on yourself. Most of the times you will get into that flow state where you will just go on and after some hours you will have gotten something done you thought previously way to hard to start or do. If not, just do 20 minutes of "work" and then a break. And then another 20.

3) Learn to enjoy yourself without having all the best. You can dress up a rock with artifacts and a system but it still will be as dense as a stone >_> (hur hur pun intended). Yeah, you might get some more losses, but everyone had those when they started. And don't give up at the first loss. Evaluate why you lost. Then try not to do that again. Also, if you can code a bit, some things you can easily set up yourself. If not, well, maybe something to learn if it interests you? While I do have a background in programming, I still learned a lot by just tinkering with code examples from other people found here or on the Mudlet forums.

4) If you feel you have not properly repaid people in the past, start by saying "Thank you for what you did for me in the past". Let them know you still remember them. See in future if you can't repay them then, but don't let it worry yo now. Start by taking care of yourself first, and then those around you. Pretty sure people will understand. And if not, well, should have been clearer in the past on wanting they money back tongue.gif It is generally not clever anyway to loan what you cannot miss, because there is no absolute guarantee to get your gold back.

5) Other things to do: Politics and roleplay as they have been mentioned. Let them be your inspiration for writing and drawing, just like everything else you do. Don't think too hard on the perfect subject.

Explore.

I actually love to "read" that large Basin-wide map on the Lusternia webpage. Figure out what areas you haven't visited, and try to get in there. Bump up your explorer score. In fact, you may actually want to read a few room descriptions along the way and enjoy the sights. This way you are earning "rank" without the grind.

Oh yes, I almost forgot. Whenever I feel like I have no idea what to do/why I'm playing Lusternia, I read the Histories. The Lusternian Histories changes every time you read it, because certain events or changes in the game would change how you read the Histories.

In short, I play Lusternia because of it's vibrant, evolving atmosphere.

Personally I never hunt, I barely ever leave the prime territory of my own org and I almost never PvP (prefering to flee in village influencing matters, unless I can somehow help a PvP-group for example), but I still have tons of fun.

Of course, we each have our own preferences, but try to get involved in the politics, designing, socializing and such. You might like it, might not. Worth a shot.

thanks guys, hope I could renew my interest in Lusty again.

Good! I hope to see you around more!!

Thought there might be something for me to add, but everyone covered it all. happy.gif

Only other thing I'd suggest, and even at my relatively low level this helps, is to set small levelling up goals. My goal current goal is getting level 85. If it seems like it's going -really- slow, I set the goal to getting 25% of the level I'm at, then 50%, then 75%. Don't be so end-product oriented. Enjoy the trip. RP lots and loiter about if you don't feel like the grind. Reserve quests I've always found fun, and I've got notes on many of the other quests if you need help with any of them. smile.gif

We have a couple of experienced players including demigods recently (re)join the Ur'Guard. Some get working and climb the ranks quickly, like their experience warrants. Others seem to be content to linger at guildrank one. The former seems like a more fun strategy to me, but you'll have to put something in before you get something out. Go take the guilds exams, even if it's stuff you already know. Their goal just isn't just that you learn something, it's that you get to interact with the regulars.
