These changes sound great.

This is pretty awesome.
One minor point. It might be nice for a post office to inform you your origami isn't closed when you try to send it.

Hey-- is the origami supposed to fall out of our inventories? If it is, can we keep it when we QQ if we put it in a satchel, or something?

This is a really nice idea. And I agree the Stamps/Chops to me are a lot like Heraldry. Plus it adds value to the bookbinding system in general.
Since we're modifying the mail system in general, there's one thing I wanted to bring up. I think like writing a book, we should allow letters to be published in a language other than common. I am a bookbinder and I wanted to send a semi-secret message to a cohort, and I couldn't write in one of my languages. I was wondering if that was something to consider with this new system.
Regarding saving letters, perhaps a bookbinder can preserve a letter or we could get special books where you just insert letter, sort of like a binder that can collect 25 or 50 or 100 letters. Or maybe for a real special letter a seal similar to the sketch seal.

Anyone seen how much gold the bookbinder gets for designing a personal stamp? Org one seems to be 100K so I'd assume a personal one would be 50K, but never can be sure.

It's listed on the wiki.

Is it possible to just have a generic 'origami' design that uses the origami noun and is available as a pattern for all origami objects?
Xiel2010-12-31 02:17:44
A few notes to reiterate a few things that were mentioned prior to this post and some of my own thoughts.
1) As can be generally seen, a big thanks for the Bookbinding upgrade! This just oozes with more things to flex our design prowess with, and I know it's kick-started my desire to start making things again.
2) The Kirigami AB notes that its effects influence both damage dealt and damage received by the one who activated the defense. Does this damage boost apply to both PvE and PvP, or just PvE? Insert concerns about stacking more damage buffs here (but that's more a combat issue anyway), and either way, can the AB be updated to note how much DMP this protection gives?
3) As Druken pointed out, these origami things drop on QQ (and I'm assuming death too). Is this on purpose? Since I can't rift my origami creations, I'm guessing it's an oversight. Should I BUG this?
4) As Iytha notes: it'd just be easier to make one base origami design using the 'origami' noun rather than limiting (and creating) more specific shapes than is already available. I know that when I first read this update, ideas of origami turtles (for modularorigami), flowers (wetfoldorigami) and symbols (kirigami) all popped up in my mind for things I'd like to make but aren't part of the selection. Would it be possible to just bring it all down to one 'origami' base design and noun?
Of course, someone could start a poll if you really want to limit the origami shapes, but folk would need to add more ideas here first. >.>
5) Finally, big yay for the Quill artifact upgrade too! Yay more vellum.

This has been fixed.

I noticed a organizational chop dropped on logout for me. You should check those as well.

OHHH. THE QUILL GOT UPGRADED. THAT'S WHY I'M MAKING MORE LETTERS/VELLUM. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.
Ayisdra2010-12-31 02:33:53
what upgrade got done to the quill?
Unknown2010-12-31 02:42:15
You make more letters/vellum per flax/leather respectively.
Xiel2010-12-31 02:42:46
It doubles the amount of vellum and letters you make from a single round of commodities. Pretty nifty, I'd say.
Another question regarding stamps: I suggested that since the BT wasn't really saving up our gold for something, to get a general guild seal and a separate seal for each BT admin all tied to the organization. The question came up though - since I'm the GC, will I be able to use the GM's seal since, technically, they're all tied to the BT as an org and I'm a leader who then has access to our seals?
Or is it possible to tie a seal to a position in an organization?
Edit: And another thought came to me - can those seals be used on newsposts? I mean, I assume seals are added on at the end of a letter, so why not a newspost? It'd get rid of those ascii critters I see floating around, and I'd think it'd be dandy if you can.

I've been testing mine, and I made one for Prav, so-- org seals aren't tied to a person, they're tied to the org. Theoretically you could just have one and keep it in a chest and any of the three guild leaders could get it out of the chest and use it. It does check whether an appropriate sealbearer (one of the three leaders for a guild) is holding it, and only one of them can use it. However, that would be silly, since they're really quite cheap. The example costs five gold and five silver; my nifty one costs five gold and five wood. I'm planning to get one for each of the three leaders.
Xiel2010-12-31 03:03:11
Oh. It totally didn't click in my mind that they're things you carry, so individual office seals would be held by a person. And if they quit the org, they'd lose the perms to use it anyway. Dandy, so we can go ahead with it.
I'd still like to know about:
1) the Kirigami clarification
2) the possibility of just one general 'origami' noun instead of 327860325 different approved shapes
3) seals being used on newsposts though
Plz?
