I don't know about you, but my excitement has inspired a designing frenzy. However, I'm finding myself fairly limited! Let's give Eventru and the team more pattern ideas!

Mine are:

an origami rose/flower
an origami hand
an origami plant
an origami tree
an origami crow/bird
an origami spider/insect

Post your ideas! If I did this wrong, hopefully Someone will tell me so I can make an appropriate edit!

Erm...kittens? Kitty...sorry, I'm a bit...uhm, I'm going to sleep soon. I hope.

Origami Oven!

Then you could put a cookie inside. It would be like a fortune cookie, but in reverse.

I'd also like to ask that the divine look into adding the possibility of original open messages when someone opens an origami. Like so.

QUOTE
You open an origami dragon, and a small burst of heat flashes across your hands as the dragon burns to a crisp. Shaking your hands to cool them, you find in the ashes.

You pull open the petals on an origami flower, finding in the middle.

Squealing with happiness, you pry apart the paws on an origami kitten to find it has been guarding . Dropping the item in your hands, the origami kitten scampers off into the aether.

That sort of thing.

Well.. When I was tucked away in my origami phase, I came across this cute little origami tiger. Any chance we can get one of those?

-turtles
-symbols
-flowers
-snowflakes
-fish
-birds
-insects
-animals

Heck, can't we just get one general one. dazed.gif
Lendren2010-12-31 04:07:51
Can't be one general one for the same reason we can't have one general one of anything in any other trade: everything has to have a noun or set of nouns, and it has to be the primary noun. "an origami snake" is always going to make a lot of people try GET SNAKE, not GET ORIGAMI. I suppose we could have gone a single pattern approach if they were forced to be in the very clumsy and aesthetically ugly form "an origami in the shape of a snake" but that would really limit creativity in your Appearance writing. So I think this is the better way. Look on the bright side: origami already has six times as many options as Artisan Wallfeatures has managed to get after only six years of having ideas submitted. (Substitute your own sour-grapes lack-of-patterns story, every trade has one.)

The notion applies to existing general and all-encompassing patterns like platters though. Even if people mistakenly try to 'get strawberries' instead of getting a platter designed as a strawberry platter, the stumble isn't enough to warrant a rejection of the base design. And the only way a design could be aesthetically ugly when using 'origami' as the noun that MUST be included is if the designer doesn't stretch their own skills. I'm sure given the chance, we'd see designs that would span past 'an origami shaped like a snake' and more things as 'an elegant origami rose' or 'a boxy origami turtle'.

Both of your examples would be rejected, as 'origami' is not the main noun, but 'rose' and 'turtle' are.

(Which I'm fairly sure is Lendren's point!)
Druken2010-12-31 04:43:56
While we're brainstorming these, is it possible to apply multiple nouns to the items? I'm channeling things like 'letter' being usable with 'letter' and 'stationery' alike. For instance, in my examples, would it be OK to start with flower and then attach new nouns to designs that would logically require a separate noun?
Xiel2010-12-31 05:17:48
Oh, right. Damn main nouns. They're the reason my donut holes weren't accepted either. losewings.gif

I still want my turtle, flower and symbol patterns then, plz.

Hearts. How can you not have origami hearts?

And frogs. The first action origami that comes to mind is that of a origami frog which can jump.
Unknown2010-12-31 07:17:02
I wish origami was the main noun. As a designer who is kind of stupid for papercraft, being able to design origami of anything I wanted would be fantastic and wonderful. dazed.gif Right now I feel so limited!

Not as part of a design, no. That would be fantastic, but as I understand it, it runs entirely counter to some fundamentals of how objects are coded that date back to Achaea's initial design. Every pattern will have its nouns and so every set of nouns has to have its own pattern.
Unknown2010-12-31 16:48:37
I definitely endorse rose and turtle (or perhaps tortoise) as a pattern!

Other ideas:
beetle
dove
cat
butterfly
koi

Did a bit of googling. I see now where the action, modular, wetfold etc terms come from =p

By the way, there's no way to distinguish action origami from, say, kirigami is there? The designs and descriptions used are the same? Because I bought a kirigami in a shop that looked like an action origami.

EDIT:
In the above's case then perhaps there should be different designs for modular, wetfold, and kirigami. E.g. mountain, spire, tree, for modular.
Eventru2010-12-31 16:51:29
Action origami designs, kirigami designs, etc are all separate from one another.

When a trademaster designs an origami, they can set the type themselves - but you cannot make a kirigami with an actionorigami design.
Siam2010-12-31 16:55:26
Can we make origami designs based on Lusternian races? :3

You can tell them apart in shops now, they're listed as "kirigami (a folded origami flame)" for instance.

Oh, how about snowflakes and symbols? And leaves? happy.gif

-make sparkly snowflake-

The astrology signs might be cool origami shapes too!

Volcano 15 Kiani - 14 Dioni
Antlers 15 Dioni - 14 Vestian
Twin Crystals 15 Vestian - 14 Avechary
Dolphin 15 Avechary - 14 Dvarsh
Lion 15 Dvarsh - 14 Tzarin
Crocodile 15 Tzarin - 14 Klangiary
Burning Censer 15 Klangiary - 14 Juliary
Spider 15 Juliary - 14 Shanthin
Dragon 15 Shanthin - 14 Roarkian
Skull 15 Roarkian - 14 Estar
Bumblebee 15 Estar - 14 Urlachmar
Glacier 15 Urlachmar - 14 Kiani

Also something generic like "symbol" so you could do "an origami symbol of Elostian" and such for guilds and families.
