Vesar? Was he an aqua back then or am I forgetting a transitional paladin phase or something?
He was, but I didn't think he still played?
Saran2011-01-07 02:18:42
I started with a few characters around the place and I remember when portals used to leave you outside Serenwildes newsroom rather than mother (subsequently I couldn't find mother for a while there )
I only started Saran when I was ready to buy credits for that... within the first 30 days thing we used to have.

Who was your UG char, if you don't mind saying?
Menzoberra, I think? I didn't do too much with him, but at least he made the Events! Event 48, in fact!
EDIT: Though, now that I think of it, he was probably one of my various alts after coming back... I don't remember my first UG's name, unfortunately...

So, according to the in-game dater, my oldest surviving character was created sometime in 2004. I play on and off and didn't realise it's been so long, but it's been a fun ride!
I started out in Serenwilde as a Moondancer before Glomdoring was released, but aside from names like Nejii and Ialie and traumatising raids by Thoros (or some other intimidating combatant, I forget) on Prime Seren, I don't really remember much.

Thoros isn't old enough, and he was Celestian at the time, it would have been Visaeris probably?
Arix2011-01-07 08:02:31
how do you find out when your character was created?
Furien2011-01-07 08:08:21
Dunno, but CHARACTERS will tell you the last time you updated your registration info.
Though now that I think about it, everyone updated theirs in like.. 2008/2009 when the system was changed, so that probably doesn't help.

Arix2011-01-07 08:12:23
according to DATE and the age I started my character at, I created Arix some time between October 27th and Halloween of 2004

I didn't.
Though I haven't been here from day one, I have been playing on/off for just over three years. Though it's only been over the past year that I've actually paid attention and gotten more involved in things.

I started about halfway through the first day of Open Beta.

How are you still here? >:(
Hmm, I start playing on my first character, Samiya, as an aquamancer...and then I was like, let's shake things up and made Lorina. The catch was, Lorina knew dreamweaving and not telepathy! ....History repeats itself.
Unknown2011-01-07 10:38:23
I had a bunch of experimental characters in both cities and the lone commune during open beta, but the only one I can remember was a mugwump Aquamancer. I thought Illusions was fantastic, especially Changeself. A bit after open beta ended, I think, I took some vague objection to the route Celest was taking in banning, or proposing banning, the hunting of gnomes in Newton for newbies, because gnomes were "good", so I quit the Aquamancers and then the city. Then I forgot Aquamancy. Then I realised what a hole I was in as a pathetic little rogue with only Illusions and Runes. The character was deleted for dormancy a while after that.

What's with all the kids who started playing when they were 11 or 12 years old? It's like you guys don't even read the Terms of Service before agreeing to them.
Yes, I remember Visaeris strolling through Serenwilde, looking for anyone to attack and kill. He was in closed beta, so he had a rudimentary combat system when the rest of us barely had a healing potion to try and sip. I still remember the satisfaction I felt when I managed to catch up with him one time and pulverize him.
The game was so big and confusing back then, it's hard to believe this is the same place I knew as a young Serenguard. No leaders in power, no cures to go around, no maps to guide the way. Our novices today may have a harsh learning curve, but at least it's a curve!

Think that that didn't come into play until a bit after it started.

I really don't know how you old people did it without maps.
When I first started playing in January '06, at least I had Caffrey's map to put up next to my nexus window.
Then I played Imperian a bit and started using Whyte's mapper, then that was introduced here, then we got the in game maps which I now use with mudlet mapper. I can't really imagine playing anymore without being able to get an in game map and speedwalk.

Hey now... I'm pretty sure the TOS way back then didn't even include an age limit, because I registered with my actual age. It wasn't until a few months later that I was banned - and after another character, I stopped playing until I was 13.
Shiri2011-01-07 14:56:33
We had Caffrey's maps after the first couple months, actually.
And thank goodness for Caffrey, too, I had to resort to them ALL THE TIME.
EDIT: Also, talking of Visaeris:
SCABIES QUARANTINE AT MOTHER, EVERYONE INFECTED GO NORTH

I still have a stack of graph paper with all of the homemade maps I made when I first started playing. That way, I knew what areas I had already explored. Needless to say, I lost track of where I have and haven't been years ago.
Unknown2011-01-07 15:53:09
The age limit started because of a US Law preventing under 13 year olds from accepting TOS agreements or something akin to that. I think that was implemented in 2006 or 2007.
Shiri2011-01-07 15:59:33
Oh, I kinda wondered what that was about.
