If there is going to be more achievements it should be something anyone can do relative easily.

Totally not opposed to people suggesting new achievements that more folk are interested or more likely to to get!

Though, this bit confuses me:

QUOTE (Ayisdra @ Jan 18 2011, 12:00 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
that's the thing, achievements have no roleplay to them at all really. You just do them because they are a checklist and points for a score.

If some people play for the roleplay, others for the combat, and others for a list of accomplishments, how is this wrong? If some people who want to just strictly play for accomplishments, they won't get very far without adhering to how the game is since I doubt anyone will elect for some nobody who comes out of the portal and straight up contests a position (not that they'd even be eligible to do so without doing some work - which would be counter to the thought that they would not have any roleplay basis).

QUOTE (Ayisdra @ Jan 18 2011, 12:00 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Not everyone is going to get all of the achievement, which to me is counteracting what they are there for.

I don't see how the achievements in and of themselves limit anyone from accomplishing them, though. I mean, with enough work, anyone can get a billion gold or get 25 honours or get elected, right? Or am I misunderstanding this statement.

Hrm, no, achievements should be a mix of easy and really hard, with different point values to represent their difficulty. You're only meant to have all the achievements if you really try to get them. Anyone who has S-ranked (got every possible achievement point) in an Xbox game will tell you that it is no easy feat (except for Avatar the Last Airbender, that game is broken)
Xiel2011-01-18 20:17:04
More ideas for achievements are welcome too! cheer.gif

I personally liked my Glomnomnom ones, but I don't know how the admin feel about them. I'd suggest some for the other orgs too, but I don't know all of the little things they can do offhand. ._.
Ssaliss2011-01-18 20:19:05
Hmm. On the one hand, I really like the org-specific one (makes everyone a bit different). On the other hand, it'd probably promote org-hopping, since some achievement-active people might switch into an org, complete the achievements, and then switch to the next one, which I'm not sure we should promote.
Xiel2011-01-18 20:32:01
Org-hopping is fair fluid nowadays anyway, and those are fueled either by grudges, new toys, or just plain old boredom. I don't believe we limit, say, introducing new skills to a guild on the off chance someone from another place would want to org-hop for it.

Oh, and those achievements end up benefitting the org in question anyway! Who wouldn't want more power from someone bringing in 300 fae? ohmy.gif

I don't ever see Ayisdra winning an election, there will probably always been someone better even if they have to guild hop to the BT for it ... The best I get is minister (which I enjoy and all).

As for 1 billion gold, some of us hate hunting and the only way to get gold is selling credits. I do suppose with enough time and saving one could get that much gold into a bank.

Sure the achievements can be hard but not impossible. Winning 1000 arena duels? relative easy enough. rezz 1000 (or whatever it is) people? relative easy now with imolations costing nothing...

but what I am saying is some achievements like elections not everyone will be able to get (in most cases that I see.)

On an side, I do like the idea of org-center achievements too
Xiel2011-01-18 20:44:15
That 1,000 rezz is fairly hard and I've been at it since the beginning and I'm only around the 300 mark. ._.

Anyways, some achievements are just meant to be daunting to try for, like that 1,000 slippers wins or 1,000 FFA wins, but I don't think they should not be there because I personally don't think I'd ever be able to get them. Some achievements will be more probable for some people while others not, so suggest some things you're interested in and I'm sure some others might support them too! cheer.gif

Type ACHIEVEMENT for more info.

EDIT: So none for battlechess, no.

Something I think would be neat are some unique permanent rewards for the more challenging achievements. For instance, influencing 100k mobs would give you 10% more effective influencing, and killing 100k mobs would give you 10% more damage. This would only apply to mobs not loyal to any player or org though, of course.

Spacing issues.

Edit: As for the prizes, though dandy, I don't want people to think that they'd have to get x-achievement just to compete in today's world (since I think a lot of people already think they have to be a demigod). I'm personally happy with an xp boost or lesson bundle for achievements! Ooh, ooh, or maybe a gnome present! Or a dandy bronze medallion that says 'I grinded to influence 100k critters and only got this medal'. biggrin.gif

EditEdit: Zomgz, another idea - what if those big, 10 point achievements added something to your description?! Imagine - an ordinary human ascendant that can toggle something to finally make them not look so ordinary in their description at the beginning! Or maybe another line at the end like perfume or facepaints?! The possibilities astound me! ohmy.gif

EditEditEdit: And aw, yay for the codebox conversion. Now its just mostly wonky instead of completely. happy.gif

That's why it'd only affect more bashing/influencing, and not revolts, PK, raids, or anything else of that nature tongue.gif

And yeah, spacing on the forums makes me a sad faeling sad.gif

True, the rewards would have to be disabled for Death/Harmony. That's the only ones that come to mind though.

I like the medal part, teehee. Sort of just a joke prize at the end, not really worth anything except being a permanent item (like the spyglass, sqwackbox, and gnomish gearboxes are)
Sylphas2011-01-19 00:04:14
Gnome presents would be interesting. Or something from whatever list the stockings use, if nothing else. They're not unique then, so it won't affect balance, but it's a small perk.
Xiel2011-01-19 00:48:13
cheer.gif Ideas, ideas!
Ssaliss2011-01-19 00:56:49
Hmm. From the top of my head: Some level achievements (20/40/60/80/100) might be nice. Also, an achievement for having 100 of each curative herb in the rift, and perhaps one for having a full set of curative potions?
Druken2011-01-19 01:03:03
Please don't call one of Glomdoring's achievements anything to do with the word 'poolboy.' Please, please, please, do not do that.
