I think the unfortunate reality of it was that the house system was implemented shortly before its designer left for new adventures. It's a very complex area (largely because of the underlying family code). When we can fix it all, we will. That meaning willing time, hands and a coder brave enough to volunteer to (or hated enough to be forced to!) dive into it.
