While stuck in TVtropes (argh) I went to check the Lusternia page. I was really surprised to find it wasn't completely horrible due to forum RP. Looks pretty accurate in most places and I didn't notice anything that made me want to nerdrage and start an edit war. Well done team. Now we just need to go Entry Pimp it all over the place.

I hate you.
Arix2011-03-29 10:48:57
by the way, here is a link to the TvTropes Lusternia Page, for those who are lazy
Shiri2011-03-29 12:06:48
I wasn't linking it on purpose...
Diamondais2011-03-29 12:10:39
Arix is though.
Arix2011-03-29 12:22:13
I linked it so people would click on it and get trapped in TvTropes
Llesvelt2011-03-29 13:10:01
I actually added stuff to this, months ago. I feel so gorram useful.
Unknown2011-03-29 13:12:02
The trick to avoid getting trapped in the TVTropes (or Wikipedia) maze is to NOT CLICK ON ANY LINKS.
Llesvelt2011-03-29 13:19:54
That is, of course, if you don't -want- to get sucked in.

I will not read it. I will not read it again.
Whew. I promised myself I won't get lost into it the same way my boyfriend happens to be hooked to TVTropes all the time.
The thing I remember about that post is the part about Raziela, though.

If I have nothing to do, I love getting lost in Wikipedia. But not when I have a ton of assignments and tests rushing at me from both this week and the next.

I clicked it and only spent 1 minute before closing the window It's a nice interpretation of Lusternia.

My favorite is when you get somewhere, and have no idea how you got there. Like, "why did I just spend 20 minutes reading about root beer?"

I found I hate TVTropes because it doesn't usually lead to better writing, but it just makes the readers cynical and makes people lose their "sense of wonder" and leads to less enjoyment of fiction. It's like constantly defining people in psychological terms from the DSM 3/4. So I've never been a fan of that site. It tends to be a little too snarky for my tastes.

That reminds me of this page:
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main...ingTheMarigolds
Specifically the "Meta" sections, both in examples and examples of aversions/subversions.

I also really really hate it when people start dissecting everything someone does and saying OH THAT'S (TVTropes link) AND THIS CHARACTER IS SOOO (TVTropes link). I know it's not what they intend, and they're just pointing it out because they like TVTropes (for some reason I've yet to understand), but if I was the author I'd honestly be a bit insulted. It just sort of has this feeling, like...oh, you're not original. You're just this well-documented stereotype! Why can't you think outside of the box, huh?

Well, the hilarity of it all is, TVTropes has SO MANY little niche stereotypes to drop things in to, they've lost all meaning AS stereotypes. They take the whole of all material, and then say, "if I can find a vague similarity between what this piece has, and anything in the sum total of all this, then LOL TROPE!". So it doesn't bother me, I just enjoy the amusement of the site.
Llesvelt2011-03-29 20:36:03
Well, I don't feel that things become uninteresting when you dissect them, personally. There are certain things that go again in a lot of stories, I think the appeal is in finding out what those things are. It's not so much about putting things in neat little boxes, for me, but rather about finding similarities and finding out why certain techniques and character traits seem to come again and again in many different stories, why they work, how they work and why people like to see them.
So I really like TvTropes, a lot.
Tropes Are Not Bad?
