私は大学で日本語を半年ぐらい勉強しますが、あまり上手じゃありません。たくさん言葉は知りません。Shikariさんはすごいですね～ Shiri姉ちゃんも日本語をわかりますよ。でも、イギリス人ですから、漢字の読み方はあまり分かりません。ええと・・・　我流？大変だと思います。私は知らないとき、中国語が知っていますから、ちょっと推量ができます。辞書もすごく便利ですよ～

そうですか。今週のテストで頑張って下さいね。私は４年間日本語を勉強していますが漢字がもう最悪だと思いますｗｗ　あまり日本語で書きませんから覚えにくいなんです。インターネットで書いた漢字を読む時、「rikai-chan」というアドオンを使わなければいけません。

ぼくもときどきにほんごをべんきょうするが、かんじがよめない。シルフェラスーちゃんとにほんごではなすときに、ひらがなとかたかなしかできない。それに、ぼくのふんてんがよわいだ。がっこうでべんきょうしなかったからわかること輪むずかしいだ。。。だれもがぼくにおしえない。ちゅうごくごをはなすひとのことをうらやましいだ。

English, Tagalog (Filipino) are my native languages. I was fluent in Spanish when I was younger, too, when I lived in my abuela's house. I can still understand Spanish sentences, but I can't speak it as fluently myself.

I'm currently learning Italian, and then planning on Arabic next.

Father's side is Spanish-influenced, yes. Batangas and all that. I'm learning Italian from this friend of mine who's quite the linguistic genius. From what I know he speaks English, Tagalog (Filipino), some local dialects, Spanish, French, Korean...and that's all I can remember, heh.

Can I kidnap him and ask him to be my, er, personal language trainer?XD My parents have been in Italy for more than two decades and I can't even speak a single Italian sentence. >.>

我也因为不太喜欢学华文，所以觉得难..还是因为觉得难，做了不太好，所以才不喜欢。哈哈。做功课的时候一直有困难。老师每次说我在脑子里想的是英文词，然后才翻译成华文，最后写出来的东西都很怪。

To Babelfish! And now that conversation makes even LESS sense

Honestly, I look at all the people that have learnt other languages and am somewhat shamed that I can't speak anything but English. Though for some reason my mind keeps on saying, "Nope, you're fluent in sarcasm.", so there's that.

I did try and learn french at school but sorta gave up when we were introduced to gendered objects...

I speak fluent Danish because I live in Denmark, fluent Serbo-Croatic because my family is ethnic Bosniak and fluent English because, well, it's English.

I took a look at the Babelfish translations and, woah, they are funny.

English translation: I don't quite like Chinese either, that's why I think it is hard. Or maybe, it is because I think it is hard, therefore I do not like it. Haha. I always have difficulty doing my homework. My teacher always says that I am thinking in English in my head, then translate it to Chinese, which results in me writing everything strangely.
Edit: I've only just saw that you all were saying that Chinese is hard on the ears, not that it is hard. Not bad, right!

I had a Filipino-Chinese classmate in college who spent his high school years in a school for Chinese and Fil-Chinese students. He used to talk about how he hated learning Chinese so much especially the characters that he didn't really bother with it except for the elementary Chinese that was forced upon them at school. And he said something about having to memorize all the characters making it..static (?). I forgot the term he used but he was referring to the fact that words/characters are fixed and to learn how to write amounts to memorizing different characters and that makes it boring, long and uninteresting for him.

Grade school and high school would be a lot easier for us if that were the case!

Yeah, Chinese is fairly unintuitive, because most of it has little to do with inferring construction from meaning and a lot to do with rote memorisation. We had to do.. uh.. ä¹ å­—, which was basically penmanship in that we had to write out each character multiple times and remember it that way. And there's pretty much no way you can guess what a word looks like just from hearing it and knowing the meaning, unlike English or Japanese where there are set 'letters'.
