It's subtle.

Oh, and OSama bin Laden is dead.
Diamondais2011-05-02 08:01:09
It's Fox though.

Is that screenshot real? If so, doh.gif
Eventru2011-05-02 10:15:38
Indeed - it was Fox40, an affiliate out in/near Sacramento.

Their defense was something along the lines of "Well, it's an easy mistake. We, and others, have made the same name-mesh as a joke before!"
Unknown2011-05-02 10:31:48
And I just found a video where a news reporter announced that Obama killed Obama, not once, twice, but thrice.

doh.gif doh.gif doh.gif

EDIT: And she was blatantly reading off a script.

I just wonder if the guy who got the lucky shot off was thinking "Boom, head-shot" when it happened. Seriously, he's gotta be riding an endorphin high that'll last for weeks. Out of hundreds of millions of people, he got off the shot that damn near everyone wanted to pull the trigger on. He has to be the happiest person in the world right about now. Screw justice. Revenge is sweeter, and after ten years, it's a dish that was definitely best served cold.

I'm just glad that I could catch the picture of his cold dead corpse on google images, and know he was gone by seeing it with my own two eyes. Call it sick or morose of me to wanna see it, but it really gave me peace of mind, regardless of whether or not it might leave me with nightmares for a while like seeing when they hung Saddam. Totally worth it to know without a doubt he's a goner.
Unknown2011-05-02 13:23:41
Yeah... it's kinda odd they just threw him out into sea like a mafia tryin' to hide a corpse compared to a public hanging of Saddam. :/
Stangmar2011-05-02 13:33:26
Headshot? I could have sworn the articles i've read said a bomb got him.

Eh, from the picture it looks like a headshot. *shudder*
Still totally worth seeing.

Pretty sure the Prez said he was gunned down.
Aerotan2011-05-02 13:48:32
My understanding is it was a death by headshot. And I think giving him a proper Muslim burial the way we did is the best thing we COULD have done with his body. The corpse itself has no value to us, beyond its mere existence, and showing the world that we are willing to treat even our greatest enemies with respect will likely go a long way toward helping our relations with primarily Islamic nations and groups. We had nothing against him as a Muslim, and denying him a burial would undermine that.

Even if he likely deserved whatever atrocities we could have inflicted him with, the simple act of us killing him and then treating his body with respect shows mercy and restraint. It shows that we killed a man because he had to be killed, and not because we wanted to kill him. A fine distinction to make, but an important one when the war is what it is.

That said, Fox has never exactly been a pinnacle of reliable, unbiased newscasting, so this is just one more faux pas I'm willing to chalk up to their general levels of dip censor.gif syndrome.
Stangmar2011-05-02 13:48:32
Yep, i stand corrected. reread the article. I don't watch a lot of our President's broadcasts...... While I don't care much for him, I'll give him my salute for a job well done on turning Osama into a statistic.

Really? So dumping him out in the Mediterranean sea was a type of Muslim burial? Hum.... my respect for humanity has just elevated a bit higher.

I thought the idea of the burial at sea was to deny fundamentalists the chance to visit his grave and turn it into a symbol.

That was the reason, although Burial by Sea is apparently acceptable in traditional burials for the culture, looked more like a "well, if you have to" type acceptable but I suppose acceptable enough?

The cited reason in interviews and such I've been able to find is that 'finding a country willing to accept the remains of the world's most wanted terrorist would have been difficult', and Islamic custom demands that the decedent be buried soon after death (preferably within a day), and allows for burial at sea provided the other rites are observed properly.

Here

While I normally do not like to rely on Wikipedia, the article is a good compilation of sources.

Ubuntu killed Bin Laden!
Stangmar2011-05-02 15:49:12
By the way, I love how we grew a set and went in without asking Pakistan for permission. The way they've been treating us lately, I'm sure they would have told UBL we were coming and he would have left. The Pakistanis HAD to know he was there.

I imagine he got a few free beers.
