That's at least the most compelling argument I've heard so far, personally.
If only because it's you bringing it up that puts it into my mind, I somewhat want to contemplate the idea of giving additional honour if a book is accepted by the LHS.

I really wish we could find a way to make it so House of Trade as a possibility, because of the rich history around such families. So I've tried to think of actions that could earn them honour but that couldn't be trivially gamed. Anyone have any ideas? Maybe if we collectively come up with some, we might convince Eventru to consider it.
- Have a sketch you designed approved by the Charites. (Few points for public, more for private.)
- Convert a clan into a cartel.
- Complete lots of commodity quests.
- Purchase an aethermanse shop.
- A very small slow gain, similar to the "elected position" one, for every month you run a shop. (Not proportional to how much business it does, because that's too cheatable.)
- Be on the crew of an aethership while it turns in dust (takes a lot of this to earn anything).
- Complete certain specific quests such as Pierre's that are focused on merchantry.

Running a shop should, at best, only be city/commune shops but even then there is a little margin for abuse. While coverting a clan and purchasing an manse shop seem... bad.

I really would love to see some form of honour gain from publishing. It is kind of disheartening for me to see that it be relegated only to prestige. I write, and I enjoy writing, but that still seems so haphazard a way to have as a means of honour. It's tough for me because I don't really bash or influence, and I'm the only moderately active Nightshade around at the moment. Like I've said, I was going to be relying on writing as my main source of honour. So this is disappointing to me.

What about the bolded below? Do they count for everyone, no matter who you may or may not be aligned with?

It's set up that way so that you have to bannerhouse to a great house until you are one.

So, it just occurred to me: why don't denizens with acknowledged bloodlines count towards the family total points? Ie. the stable masters adding a point to the active membership of whatever family they hail from. Makes sense in my mind that they would, even if this'd give like, +7 to other families cause of their widespread memberships like the d'Murani.
And along these lines, I think it'd be awesome if Greater Houses (established or newly formed) which declare their ties to an organization get a denizen to come intern at the organization to further ingrain the roleplay of the family to the org. Like, if a Blood family becomes a GH, they'll one day find a wannabe warrior wandering around saying they're there to learn how to be a better combatant or a more knowledgeable tactician. Of course, like the suggestion above, this new member would add +1 to the family total, but it'd be dandy, I think.
And it doesn't even have to be the same thing either that would come to try and learn from the org! Like say:
-Blood GH's can get an untested mercenary or tactician relative.
-Letter GH's can get a religious acolyte or a scientist/scholar.
-Culture GH's can get a socialite or a budding playwright.
-Honour GH's can get a noble or a hopeful politician.
Of course those suggestions are kinda just my imagination running wild, so I shall sum it up thusly:
1) Enable denizens with corresponding surnames to add to the family total of the player family active member list.
2) Have GH's who pledge to an org encounter an errant denizen with their surname that would start wandering the home organization wanting to learn something depending on the type of GH. Would ingrain the whole org/family bond more!
Would be dandy, I think! And I think the historical families should get like, a predetermined choice (since apparently the Stormcrows are like, priest-y so it'd make sense if they got an acolyte relative should they become a GH) as opposed to a random choice the non-historical families would get.

The admins got so much guff for favoring some families with those and not others, I doubt they're about to give a big mechanical benefit to some families for having previously given them something very nice as a gift. Now, what might almost make sense is if you could spend family honour to have denizens with your name. (They still wouldn't count to membership, though. Just having them exist is cool enough that people would still pay for it.)
