The answer is player restraint. The lesson one learns after long enough playing these games is that, by and large, player populations don't have restraint. Isn't it fun? (I'm really frustrated after reading this thread, honestly, because obviously there's a vast disconnect between how different people see the game, and that's unfortunate, but not much anyone can do about it.)

1. I am most certainly not a fan of extending Avenger on Ethereal, Elemental, Cosmic, or Astral - it should stay on Prime only. The four higher planes see the greatest PK in Lusternia. While some people want to be "left alone", there are also people who want to fight. And fight they do on off-Prime planes.
2. Serenwilde and other "leave me alone" organizations don't always stay that way. Two years ago Glomdoring was the bashing ground, and Serenwilde was the one wielding the PK hammer. It's not about organization RP; ultimately, the players decide where the organization goes. Serenwilde is already seeing a new generation of fighters. They're already starting to fight back. I'm sure, sometime in the future, you'll be the ones doing the epic raids and Glomdoring will be the one on the bottom of the food chain (again!).
3. In line with the above point, and I'm really trying not to point the "you did it first!" finger here: even Serenwilde has its players who are focused on PK. Even Glomdoring has its people who are focused on RP. I don't think it's really fair to stereotype whole orgs into PK or RP or whatever as you seem to be doing. With that said, even the big bad scary Glomdoring gets griefed from time-to-time.
4. Losing Demigod brings you back to 3/4 Titan. With things like exp boosts and aetherhunting and astral bashing, it's not hard to retake. Trust me on this one here.
5. PK is PK. While we do have awesome stuff for RP like designing and writing and plays (seriously, though, hats off to whoever came up with Lusternia's arts mechanics, as they are very awesome), most of the mechanics of Lusternia is geared towards PK. Have vitae give a minute-long grace, that's it, and have it up when you're out and exploring and if any mean person kills you, at least you have a greater chance to escape back into the safety of your home. You can even bring combatant friends with you when you come out again. PK in Lusternia is all about groups.

Do you regain the powers you invested or are those lost? That's what would kill the game for me. It's not losing Demigod, but losing the 100+ million of power investment.

They spent what, four RL years being griefed by all the other orgs (except Halli/Gaudi)? I think they're allowed a little payback

The trick is to bash up the buffer (20-25 million puts you in a cushy safe zone), and when you buy powers to not go below that.
I'm under the impression that nowadays, unless someone wants to lose Demigod or just doesn't care enough to bash up a bit, they won't ever lose it.
Unknown2011-06-02 01:54:44
Hum, that... seems like something that should probably be changed. Granted, it is preventable (if you're investing large amounts of essence in powers, you must inherently have the ability to get those large amounts of essence in the first place, so spending yourself close to losing demi should seem a needless risk) but even given that, it seems crazy harsh.
Or, if not changed, at least made abundantly clear in the help files. "You lose demi? Say goodbye to everything you bought with essence, have fun rebuilding it!". Effectively, for some, a death that costs them many many many millions of essence.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind it being changed. I think they just decided it should be that way since it's one less set of things to code. I expect anyone who'd lose secondtradeskill that way would be pretty pissed.

I had bought some of my things before I went inactive about a year ago, and just newly back, having trouble staying above 2.5mill at the moment despite abashes and the like. Would be sad to lose the investment from before I went inactive just because before I left, I chose the wrong power and wasted however many millions of essence (stupid choice/custom zap, confusing me!).
Razenth2011-06-02 02:11:15
You're Glom, you'll be fine. Glom has lovely aetherhunting. And they stay up for a long time. You'll make a million in two or three hours minimum.
Back to griefing!
Back to griefing!

Very exciting to log onto a game for 2-3 hours a day and spend it on an abash, I agree.

Have you tried influencing? Even with just 2.5 million if you stick to non-enemy territories on prime it's pretty doubtful people will mess with you and while influencing is slow in comparison to astral/abashes, it's a steady essence gain. I did that when I first came back and can manage about 5m+ a week even with being pretty lazy and distracted. And if someone does decide to kill you, you'll get status and only lose 250k, which is a pretty small amount in the long run.
Also if you manage to get a good spot in a decent abash (like turret or empath), a decently long run should grab you something like 2.5m on its own! Other than that, make lots of friends for the bashing!
Regarding losing powers if you lose demi, it's harsh, but if you've bashed up the 70million for secondtradeskill/veneration then surely you have the forethought to manage a buffer to prevent demi loss. And like I said earlier unless someone's really after your skin or you want to lose demi chances are you won't ever lose it. Unless you're Alac. But I think he just likes getting the level 100 orgasm.

Yeah, influence, everything. I'm just having issues, must be my e-dedication or something.

It's true; there is nothing like bashing Ladies of Moon and then getting zipped up to the safety of Divine Havens right when the defending comes in full force.
And regarding the lost powers on losing Demigod issue, it sucks, but that's the price you pay for not keeping a big-enough buffer. And it is fairly easy to build up a buffer. Even empowering guards will give you a decent amount of essence, plus there are lots of high-level influencing places on Prime. UV tunnel mobs are good enough for bashing. And, of course, aetherbashing.

1. Restraining players will always lead to less dynamic game environments.
2. "Griefing" is apart of life as much as it is any good game. Just as its ok to bully a kid at school, its not ok to bring a gun to school and shoot him.
3. Conflict should always be headed in an upward spiral; every new conflict needs to produce a new generation. If not, stagnation.
My thoughts on the subject.

I must have missed the memo were bullying is okay in schools now.

No. Neither are acceptable.
But, Lusternia is not school either.
