Alright so I am finally getting close to finishing up designing my tattoos and thinking about what to put on my tattoos and I just have some questions. I'll put my options below and my thoughts about them.
759 points to put in total
Damage Absorption up to 10 DMP on cutting, blunt, magical, fire, cold, poison, asphyxiation, electrical, and psychic.
(This is fairly straightforward and probably where I'm leaning to put most of my points after I do some more research on DMP)
IllusionPerception See through illusions up to 5% chance
(I won't use this)
DamageBuff Up to 10 DMP on cutting, blunt, magical, fire, cold, poison, asphyxiation, electrical, and psychic
(It's possible I'd do this for nightkiss, but does this help whatsoever while bashing? Do I have to put points in for each damage type my attack is and the source? If I do how much more damage would I do?)
DivineTattoo increase in offerings up to 10%
(This is kind of cool for flavor when I start taking an active interest in the game again)
Charisma increase specific influencing attacks up to 10 weight Whatever that
means
(Not likely as it takes 100 to get to the top of each influencing type, really expensive for something I assume doesn't have much impact. What does 10 weight mean? Would I like have to influence one less time than normal? Wish I knew what all the influencing buffs I'm using really do for me.)
Interference resist summoning-type abilities to to bonus of 10 whatever that
means
(Not likely I'll ever use this, pretty easy to just move a room really)
ElementalTattoo resistance to moving around on elemental planes, 5% chance
(Kinda cool, but I'll just live with it, 5% doesn't really seem much of a change, and having to get it for each plane I go to doesn't really seem worth it.)
EnchantedTattoo 5% chance to renew an enchanted item.
(This is kind of cool, I have thought about this but eh, I can just pay the 8 gold every time I use an enchant. Don't forsee myself using this unless it renews the whole item when it pros.)
PowerTattoo Increase power you can hold up to 20%
(This is kind of nifty, but really I don't use more than 100% power in a single weave, or really more than 20% reserves a weave.)
Observation.
Sounds like most of the powers are attempts to create some form of customization for a character which is super awesome, I just wish there were more options to do more nifty little things.
So my real questions are
1.) Is the damageabsorption option what most people are using?
2.) Will DamageBuff really help anything for me? Is it worth spending the 300 weight for all my different damage types/sources that nightkiss has, and how much of an increase would it be?
3.) If I put my points into the charisma tattoos would it help at all when I already have a beast, potion applied, Charismatic Aura, Dramatics performances and 20+ charisma?
4.) Does the enchantedtattoo just renew that one charge, or the whole item?
5.) Am I missing something about the ones I'm not even considering to make them cool and give me any reason to use them over the ones above?

I'm going to use damage buff tats, but only because every single bit of damage I do as either a Spiritsinger or Moondancer is magical. In your case, getting the full 10 dmp on all your damage is way more tat weight.

On an entirely unrelated note still covered under the veil of the thread title, am I allowed to make metallic tattoos? I know I can at least use goldtint, but...silver tattoos?
Arel2011-06-22 20:18:03
yeah, silver is 1 goldtint and1 faeleaf per weight.

Thankee.

1 For damageabsorption I was recommended to use electricity/fire/blunt/cutting. Electricity and fire due to the fact that most warriors seem to rune with that (or so I was told), as well for me with the aslaran fire weakness. Cutting and blunt for warriors, again, plus I was told blunt would be good for bashing.
2 For damagebuff, I looked at it... I think I put some buff into either cold or magical for my staff. I'm not sure that it honestly makes all that much of a difference.
3 If you already have that much for charisma, I mean... the tattoo might help a bit, but you've already got it made.
4 Whole item I believe, randomly.

I would dispute this on a number of instances, but it all depends on what you want to do. Anyone planning to invest a lot of time in high end bashing, or UV bashing very specifically, ought to consider poison/psychic/asphyxiation absorption tattoos. Most other damage types have many other sources of DMP to fall back on for specific types, especially the physical types and fire, so that the diminishing returns you get from those make them less worthwhile as tattoo options. In Daem's case, though, he probably ought not to consider poison at all since he has totems snake and shadow garb on top of nightkiss, but for city players? Definitely.

Oh, sod. I forgot about poison. Silly silly me.

Heya Shishi,
Damage Absorbption is somewhat of a challenge, and definitely not straightforward. See the following link for my rundown how DMP defensively stacks for a Psymet Nekotai, and that doesn't even take into account racial elemental (dis)advantages:
http://forums.lusternia.com/index.php?s=&a...st&p=823396
I would suggest you pick the defensives that have the least amount of DMP stacking from abilities (thus giving you the best ratio), or to sure up your racial disadvantages… even if you have a 2% to 3% defensive gain.
Damage buff doesn't count towards PVE bashing (according to my cursory tests). So pick damage buffs exclusively for PVP gain.
I have not yet tested to gain a better understanding of how this buff works with your target's defensive DMP… which is somewhat problematic for those classes who deal multiple damage types. I might suggest to pick the damage buff that has either the LEAST amount of defenses (i.e. asphyxiation), or covers the most amount of your attack abilities.
Hopefully REPORT 585 will solve these problems.
Dunno. Divine tattoo seems entirely unique to me. Not a buff you can acquire from most anywhere else. This might be worthwhile if you are in an order, and especially if you are part of a cult. Might be at least worthwhile if you can at least use your remaining 9 points towards this end.
As far as influencing… if you influence more than you bash, I might consider the investment (especially since damage buff won't improve PVE). Especially if you only need to invest into one influence type like empowerment or begging.
Still trying to figure out a good tat build on paper. Still mostly tat-less. Going full weight will wait until after I have submitted all of my customized, personalized designs.

On a side note, does increased essence donation from Divine Tattoo also translate to increased karma gain?
Sylphas2011-06-28 22:59:59
It seems odd that damage tats wouldn't help in PvE, since my magic damage rune definitely does and my songs seem to.

If you get a 100 weight Charisma tattoo, it will give you a 10% increase in a specific influence attack type.
Tattoo Power Strength (From my tattoos powers list)
------------ --------
Cutting Damage Absorption 6 DMP
Blunt Damage Absorption 4 DMP
Magical Damage Absorption 20 DMP
Poison Damage Absorption 20 DMP
Asphyxiation Damage Absorption 20 DMP
Cutting Damage Buff 10 Buff
Blunt Damage Buff 10 Buff
Charity Charisma 10%
Empower Charisma 10%
So it's not 10 dmp for 100 weight of charisma tattoo like many people seem to presume, it's actually 10%.

On second thought, I wonder if Offensive DMP doesn't directly raise damage as much as it decreases your opponents Defensive DMP. Dunno, and have no real way of knowing.

Both of them didn't at first, and got fixed to do so later. I wouldn't be surprised if the same is true here. Seems that damage to players and mobs are coded separately and they always forget to do the latter when they do the former.
