So I recently joined Gaudiguch, and have been pleasantly surprised by the playerbase. There's a lot of positive energy going into things, and it reminds me a lot of when Hallifax first opened up.
I could go on forever but I'll make it short and sweet. Basically:
When Kalin was Mayor, he favoured people to CR3 just so they'd vote for him(apparently). So now Gaudiguch refuses to let anyone favour anybody during an election, and this extends to guild AND city favours.
I think that's going a bit overboard. Punishing the players who actually want to enjoy the game and earn rank, but are denied any recognition of hard work because someone took advantage of their authority. Which by the way, could have happened in any org.

Many orgs have that restriction. At least, it's implicitly understood most of the time and people will grouch at you if you circumvent it. If someone's organising it properly that should read "delayed any recognition of hard work."
Ssaliss2011-07-14 12:24:11
Do elections really happen that often that it's an issue? And as Shiri says, you can just get favored afterwards anyway.
Jack2011-07-14 12:36:53
Yeah, it's not really a big deal, you just joined at an inopportune time. I'm sure if you're doing good work, you'll be favoured promptly at the election's cessation.
Tetra2011-07-14 12:58:24
I don't know. There are currently about 5 or 6 GR1 in Illuminati. I've logged an unhealthy amount of hours these past few days and haven't seen one single Undersecretary. It tells me that this is a frequent occurance - one which isn't that healthy for the org.
I'm the kind of player that will play for hours on end, 3 days straight, and then stop playing for a week. Gaudi and Halli have been out for more than a year now, but let's face it. Things are rocky. Elections happen more than less.
And while it may not be that big of a deal, sure, you can't deny that it's an incredibly stupid rule. OOC and IC.

I'll go ahead and deny that! If you don't have it it causes a lot of drama about favouritism and corruption and bribery and so on and so forth (regardless of whether any of this is true in any given instance). The cost of delaying favouring until immediately after the election is completed is pretty minor by comparison.

You can't tell me that 5 or 6 GR1s in a guild is normal. If we look at the problem as a whole:
There's a lack of Undersecretaries, and most of the ones we have now are inactive. That means even when there isn't an election happening, nobody is around to give favours or exams. My guild leaders have very similar playtimes, and they logout after about an hour or two. Which is fine. But that's a completely unrealistic timeframe in an IG month to get your exam done before the next weave starts.
Not to mention that 60% of the active playerbase of Gaudiguch is Peasant? That doesn't make sense either. Unless they all really are that lazy.
Shiri2011-07-14 13:15:16
That is pretty normal actually, because people institute strict guild/communefavouring systems instead of just doing it whenever they see someone doing a good job, which is a completely different problem. And it's totally unrelated to whether you favour during an election or just wait a couple of RL days and do it then.

This doesn't seem to have anything to do with the election-favoring rule, unless you're implying that the favors earned during an election are never given out when the election is over, or that elections are happening all the time. Some bureaucrats could help with that, but they're all in Hallifax. Either way it seem like Gaudiguch would be a better venue for this discussion than the forums.
Tetra2011-07-14 13:24:46
The way I see it, if someone is honestly that corrupt, they will bribe players after the election is over. They will plant the seeds and reap them later. Also, how many of these GR1s even have enough vote weight to even really matter?
It all seems incredibly anal retentive.
Edit: @Daraius
I don't think Tetra is in any real position to complain about Gaudiguch's laws, since she's being watched like a hawk right now. I'm more talking about the city and this law, not either of them divorced from each other.

So why did you go on the forums and make a thread about it? It's an IC decision. I surely hope you aren't trying to justify your OOC reasons on an OOC board to get something changed IC!
Unknown2011-07-14 13:39:53
Yeah, this definitely seems like something you should be bringing up ICly, not on the forums. Nothing is going to come from it here besides people thinking you are a complainer.

Superimposing a favour ban on an entire city or commune is kind of silly. Seems like the people who are in leadership positions are paranoid that some Kalin zerg will come and steal their pretty throne away from them.
Sidd2011-07-14 13:47:22
It's not silly, you're being silly for thinking it is, chill out, it's not the end of the world

Believe it or not, on occasion, and only out of sheer arrogance, people don't realize the full scope of what their actions superimpose on a group at large. The forum represents a majority of players who know the game fairly well, and are very outspoken. But it's been proven time and time again in polls that the vocal majority doesn't necessarily represent the playerbase's thoughts.
How many new players do you think honestly care to sit around for 3 days, waiting for their text game election to end so they can start having fun?
Seriously.

I have an alt in Gaudi (in the Illuminati) that I've been playing quite a bit though it's been a few days, and this is the first time I've seen anyone complain about it. Most people understand it and despite the forum population disagreeing with you, you still insist that you are indeed right and everyone else is wrong. Take a chill pill man, you'll get your favors

Lol, I'm not worried about getting favoured. This isn't about Tetra wanting her favours, boohoo, poor her.
If you can't see how incredibly inconveniencing it is for the average player/or newcomer, I don't know what else to say to you.

it's an inconvenience yes, but not incredibly so, it's actually really really minor, you're totally just blowing it our of proportion. When I first started playing in Glom, I had to wait quite some time to get favored because there was an election in the Nekotai who have the same rule for similar reasons. If you aren't worried about getting your own favors, then why even bring it up? Have new players complained to you? If yes, then explain the reasoning why and they'll probably go 'oh ok, I can understand that' (I've done this numerous times as well).

Honestly, I don't see it. A real newbie is going to be too busy getting themselves oriented to worry about advancement, and I'm sure the average player is aware of the ubiquitousness of the policy already, and has learned to deal with the (minor) inconvenience it represents. It means a couple of days without favours - favours, mind, which any city/commune with a shred of organization will already have noted and backlogged for later. Where's the issue?
