Back to Common Grounds.

So does this mean that peoples partially formed curios are now completely useless and just wasting space in our inventories since it will be pretty near impossible to complete them now? That's not very fun at all... i was working really hard at finishing mine... only 2 common pieces away too... no one ever seems to have a darned fawn tail... i swear that is the real rare piece... sad.gif le sigh....
Talan2011-08-02 01:25:08
I think it just means that for now, collectors will have to find them among the existing curios in the game. I'm quite sure they will come back - they were very popular.

Among the ones that haven't been rubbed for coins, which were hard enough to find before the supply got cut off.

my point exactly.. i spent good money on those curios to make the fully formed ones... now they are essentially useless until something happens with them again a year from now which means my money was completely wasted for a month long promo that is now useless? we REALLY should have been warned about that one... since most curios have been rubbed for coins and not many people have them left. should be able to unattach or rub partially formed ones if you no longer want them due to the scarcity of curios.

I highly doubt that it'll be a year before more coins are available and / or some other method of getting crate-like-things happens. Hang in there!

It still seems silly to code a whole system for curios (make dolls tradeable curios) and then cut off the entire supply, especially as it was one of the few decent gold sinks I can think of outside of manses.
Enyalida2011-08-03 00:11:15
Trade-able dolls, wot? I'm not even a big doll collector, but I'd go for some if I could trade them for older/better ones.

While I can't speak to what plans may or may not be hatched or are being hatched regarding curios, I'm pretty surprised at some comments. It was said when they were released they would be gone with the end of the sale, and it was said again when the sale was extended. Much like retired dingbat items, 'gone' really does mean 'gone' - why would this be any different? Again, on the partials, you knew you couldn't detach them - there's warnings all over the news post(s) and helpfiles and certainly word of mouth - so, again, why are you surprised?

I'm not unsympathetic, I'm just kind of baffled, I guess!
Unknown2011-08-03 00:36:47
Wait, so does that mean they were taken out of potential Wheel rewards?
Unknown2011-08-03 01:21:04
Curios were awesome gold sinks, though. And with credits reaching an all-time high of...9000 gold per? I think we need gold sinks.
Jack2011-08-03 02:25:49
9K per, really? Time to buy some OOC credits, I think.

You could have shouted it all day in bright shiny gold text and I'd still think it silly. Dingbat items are something you just buy, curios you have to build, and it can be really hard with all the incentive there was to just turn them into coins and keep spinning. Unless I'm really missing something here, it was the only decent gold sink we had beside manses; I kind of figured you'd keep them on Jeremiah once they were gone from the artifact package deal.

People that tried to take advantage of the shiny new system but weren't lucky enough to find all the pieces they needed are now not only holding a partial they'll never be able to complete, but they're also robbed of the ability to rub the pieces they had for coins because you can't detach them. Yes, we knew that going in, but I'm not sure anyone thought they'd be entirely gone, never to return. Knowing that, there would have been even more of an incentive to just rub them all. I can't imagine trying to complete a curio at this point; I was paying double digit credits for commons for the last few pieces I needed, and I'd imagine that by now you'd be looking at much more than that if people have the piece you need and actually charge market value.
Lilia2011-08-03 02:46:40
I actually didn't realize they'd go away completely until that announce towards the end. The initial announce post was very ambiguous, and I always thought it was just an announcement of a new system. I wasn't going to worry about curios at first, but after I got a few pieces from the Wheel, I thought I might as well to collect a whole set, because I was bound to get them all eventually. Now I'm really wishing I hadn't bothered. Meh.

Man, I was selling them for like 5 credits.

I am a sucker. sad.gif
Unknown2011-08-03 04:55:49
I've got about 60 different pieces. Maybe I should advertise.
Razenth2011-08-03 05:01:00
Might be able to trans a skill! Or two!

Well, I had to not only find someone with the pieces I needed, and convince them it was worth it to sell, but also make sure anyone who got a piece would know they were worth selling so they didn't rub without looking to see if they had what I needed if I wasn't actively spamming when they got it.
Eventru2011-08-03 15:14:59
I'm not saying "Never again! Muahaha! *mustache twirl*" or that they've been removed from the wheel (doubt the latter, wouldn't know on the former). I'm just saying this sudden reaction to the fact they're gone is being treated like some shocking affair, some unknown and unfair act.

Frankly, they were terribly popular so I wouldn't be surprised if they come back at some point. I'm just expressing my surprise over people treating this like some sudden shock. tongue.gif
Ssaliss2011-08-03 15:19:11
I should've stocked up on curios when I had the chance... and sell them at exhorbitant prices now *muahaha*
