If you smelt a forged creation made with mercury, will you receive the mercury back like you do other metal commodities, or is that categorization just thematic rather than functional when referring to the contents of your rift?
Thematic. I don't get any back from my liquid shield or liquid plate.

Poo. Thanks for the clarification! Guess I'll try something else for this design.

I used it after knowing. Makes me feel cool and underground. And then I can make a T-1000.

If only shields and the like could be tempered, then I'd make more non-all metal things. Poo reforging.

I don't like monk, and gods help me, I actually miss warrior. I liked the combat, despite its mammoth difficulties, and it was much more puzzle-like than monk combat, which bores me. Also, the group thing was fun with Aerys, Rivius, and Ceana.
How awful of an idea would it be to switch back and take Tracking?

Very cofuzzled with how to spend my lessons. Torn between three things,
Transcend Glamours
Transcend Acrobatics
or get Green in Lowmagic.
I have IllusorySelf in Glamours and Forwardflip in Acrobatics right now.

If you're doing any combat, get Green.

Then after that, Acro or Glamours first? Not sure if DeadlyPattern etc. is worth it over Acro first, which makes me harder to hit.
Edit: And Spring and DeadlyPattern seem disturbingly similar... and the other is so high up in Glamours. Anyone know anything about them?

Both are nice, though from what I understand, Acrobatics isn't as nearly important for a bard. Maze is great for separating groups. DeadlyPattern is silly. ColourMaelstrom is useful, but you'll do fine without it. Bard solo is pretty power-intensive anyway. You really just want to set up your passives, then go to town with aurics.
There are definitely some other important skills to shoot for. Trans Discipline will be really important to you as a bard (faster power regen; you'll also want at least up to focus mind). You want shieldparry in Combat for sure, as well. Hopefully you have conglutinate in Planar already.
Edit: Scissorflip is also a great group utility ability!

Not very. I've done the math before.
Kata - Melee => Knighthood - Melee
Acrobatics - Fitness => Athletics - Fitness
Harmony/Stealth - Communion => Tracking - Communion
Exactly 1 for 1. Minimal lesson loss of 20%
If you're a psymet, you'll lose the acro to athletics bonus, and incur an additional 30% loss for the skill change, though.
Biggest pain will be getting pliers or trading in weapon runes, if you have any. If not, you're pretty much set.
---
That's lessons wise. Combat wise, you've been both, so it's really a no-brainer which is the easier class to fight as. That said, tracker/pb with pits/decap is a solid tactic that will work on most people barring the top tier, and you'll be highly demanded in group combat for tracking alone, if not for great synergy with other knights. Even if you go another knight spec, there can never be too many warriors, so group combat is pretty much set. You'll usually be tanky, subject to racial choice. Warrior cons are pretty much general knowledge, lack of 1v1 viability against other warriors and good wound curers. Jealousy-syndrome when you look at monks etc.

Do more lessons in Combat and Resilience make Kata and its specialisations hit harder/faster/do anything?

I think that because Combat is in Melee, the parent school of Kata, that improving Combat will increase the damage of your Kata & specialization attacks but I'm not entirely sure how much or what kind of a benefit you'd receive from that, if any. Increasing the parent skill to improve the dependent skills worked for Planar and Elementalism/Aquamancy back when I was a mage.

How do you fill a vial with water? I take it you can't just do it at a river or something?

Uh... that's a good question. If you don't know of any water fountains you can get to, maybe you could try using a bucket? If you have the Dousing skill in Environment, you could always try FILL BUCKET WITH WATER; FILL VIAL FROM BUCKET? Dunno if that'll even work but maybe it's worth a shot.
Lendren2011-09-27 21:43:33
FILL BUCKET WITH WATER
POUR BUCKET INTO VIAL
Silly that you can't do it without a bucket, but probably not worth coding it either. There are certainly far sillier things.
