Yeah, I found it.
Found mine in the tidal flats.
I really wish there was either some sort of hint as to where you should start looking, or more immediate responses from the feather. Having the feather spin to point in the direction of the diamond regardless of distance would be great, as that would eliminate 80% of the useless walking around. Alternatively, if we must have the walking around, having the feather immediately react as soon as we entered a room where its reaction level would change would also be helpful, both in the big search for the general area of the diamond as well as the smaller search for the exact location.
Ssaliss2011-10-02 18:59:53
The problem with that is that pathfinding (which is, essentially, what must be done each time you touch the diamond to check the distance) can get rather CPU-heavy. I think part of the reason for the delay is to discourage spamming.
Kiradawea2011-10-02 19:21:21
Giving a clue to the location would be nice though. I've heard that's what Achaea does.

Having them appear in the UV seems a bit much to me. It already took me practicly an hour to find one of mine on prime, it horrifies me to find out I might have to look down there too!

Honestly, the area that the feather starts turning is quite large, it's just a matter of elimination. I'm lucky in that I have methods to check pretty much the basin and uv pretty quickly, but even without that it's just a general method of elimination

For smaller folks though, it's not the vastness of the UV that's the problem; it's the fishers.

It just encourages inter-org interactions for help, I'm a fan of that

The feathers give different messages for 24, 14, 9 and 4 rooms away. 25+ is "perfectly still" and it increases in activity from there.
Rika2011-10-02 23:36:22
I agree that it is currently too hard for the majority of the game to find their location. It's easy for me, because I have so many ways of getting to places easily and quickly, but that is not true for most of the game, which is what this should be targeted at.
Unknown2011-10-02 23:59:20
This quest is definitely driving me insane...ugh....

I absolutely disagree, I think it's maybe tedious, but not hard at all. Not to mention you can get people to help you out by dragging you around. Use your resources better. Oh no, you have to run around trying to find it, the turning point is a really large area so you don't need to try every area just some main ones.
Kiradawea2011-10-03 00:17:42
I suppose the question then is "should it be fun" or "should it be a grind"?
Enyalida2011-10-03 00:19:55
I agree that for people who do not have the ability to survive places like the UV and have bad luck, making it very difficult to find, this is increasingly frustrating/pointless. I like the idea of a promotional event that asks you to actually do something, but some sort of general pointer in the direction you need to go would be greatly appreciated. Finding a 24 radius area among thousands of rooms, split between two continents, one of which has large agro things that hurt robed demigods in a bad way is far too much to ask of some players.
EDIT: Generally, the artifacts from these are pretty good, I still have my vacuum. Of course, in that event, you didn't have to take 1hr+ 21 times aimlessly spamming TOUCH FEATHER while speed walking as fast as you can around the basin, you got on an organized aetherflight to each place, and it was over. If the artifact turns out to not be so... hot, a lot of people may give up on doing such things in the future.

Would be cool if the maximum range was "same local area" instead of "within 24 rooms.
Kiradawea2011-10-03 00:29:15
Giving a hint to the location of the shard when you get your feather would do a lot to mitigate these concerns. Especially since speedwalking can quickly become "not-so-speedy" walking if you have just a little lag, making your search last far longer than it should.

I'm coming out with a script to help locate them (it'll keep visual tabs for you, not autowalk) - just because the admins have been awesome on bugfixing recently. Look for it soon.

This all reminds me of archaeology in World of Warcraft.

'cept Archaeology shows up on your map and gets you oodles of cash and fun items. Instead of exsanguination via Aggressive Clusters.

For Mudlet, I presume? (EDIT: And any other clients that use whatever language you're scripting with. Not-Lua?) Pretty awesome of you. But I can't use it because I still use Nexus/MUSHClient.

Somehow, I don't think Estarra will have us digging up artis (epic items) or Beastmastery pets (mini pets) in this event. Though I do wonder what this special artifact is going to do. Imperian's also being elusive with details, just saying the amulet will have "special powers that will be revealed on the 21st day of the event."
EDIT: Ninja'd by Kialkarkea, kinda. My wondering about the event artifact power still stands.
