16.1.1.3 LIBRARY PRESTIGE CONTEST

OVERVIEW:

The library prestige contest is an in-character contest that allows the Great Libraries of the Basin of Life to submit books of literary art and scholarly virtue to placed within the World Library itself upon Avechna's Peak. The books bring their city or commune of origin cultural prestige, and the books themselves will be marked as prestige winners in the Great and World Libraries.

This contest is not to be confused with the artisanals and bardics contests, which are out-of-character and submitted via the Lusternia website. See ARTBARDS.

HOW IT WORKS:

o The prestige contest itself occurs in cycles that take place over 5 years. Voting takes place on years that are multiples of 5 (the year 655, 660, 665, etc.). Books can be submitted in the 4 years leading up to the voting year. The 4 years to submit, and 1 voting year constitute a cycle.

o Great Librarians of each city or commune may submit one literary book and one scholarly book to the contest, out of those books that have been published and reviewed a success. See GREATLIBRARIANS, PUBLISHING.

o The divine scholars will vote on the book submissions. At the voting year's end, the winners of each category, along with their scores, will be posted upon the Politics newsboards.

CONSIDERATIONS:

o As noted above, only published books that have been reviewed a success may be submitted. That is, they will be described as: "This book is considered a respected publication."

o Books published more than 50 in-game years ago will be looked upon poorly in divine scholar scoring, and thus may score significantly lower than a similar quality work that is newer.

o All factors considered in HELP CRITIQUING remain in effect in divine scholar scoring.

o Specifically, plagiarism is strictly prohibited. See PLAGIARISM for the severe consequences. Note plagiarism includes the use of text generated by artificial intelligence (AI) as part or all of your work.

SEQUELAE:

o Divine scholars will at times make comments on the prestige works, whether or not they win. Their comments will be found upon LIBRARY INFO <book id> after the completion of the prestige contest and forever thereafter.

o The Scholarly Winner will award the city/commune of origin 500 culture points and 50 org points.

o The Literary Winner will award the city/commune of origin 500 culture points and 50 org points.

o Any submitted works that did not win will gain 25 weight for purposes of determining book weight in the city/commune of origin's collection.

o Winning works will gain 100 weight for purposes of determining book weight in the city/commune of origin's collection.
