11.1.46 Li-varili, Lady of the Lagoons

A capricious Awakener of the Sixth Circle, Li-varili, the Lady of the Lagoons was known for Her awakening of the nereids, and was rumored to be one of those involved in the unfinished awakening of the Sea Spirit; few, however, would have dared ask Her directly of the truth of such tales.

As the Elder Wars ensued, Li-varili was one of many Divine to vanish with no explanation, and in the trial of the Traitors, Her disappearance was one of several ascribed to Lady Drocilla, the Enchantress. Many presumed Her dead or worse, but the reality was far stranger: Li-varili was found imprisoned in a trench deep beneath the Inner Sea, rendered powerless by the infamous Divine artifact called the Morokeche Seat. For thousands of years She had been abandoned in this place, unable to be detected and unable to reach out for salvation, until an unlikely band of pirates stumbled upon Her in the year 590.

Upon returning to the Basin of Life, Li-varili struggled to adapt to life in Lusternia once more, where She mostly could be found lurking in Her lagoons. Expressing distrust and fear towards Elder Gods and mortals alike, She held no desire for an Order like Her cousins, or to patron a commune or city; indeed, Her true motives and aspirations were difficult to glean at all. Many observed the Goddess's contradictory behaviour was much like that of Her fae, the nereids: at times jealous, cruel and fickle, and other times, charming and endearing.

During Her return to the First World, She left chaos in Her wake. She stole the Eye of Dynara from Maylea and Nocht, using its power to Awaken Great Spirit Sea who then drowned the Basin in unending storms until the Gods lulled her into slumber; She formed the Bloodtide Coven among mortals to serve Her demands and Her cruel whims; She exacted vengeance upon the Elders that She felt betrayed Her so long ago, conjuring the Curse of the Sunken Heart through the power of the Seal of Justice, which She wielded until Kethuru's prison threatened to shatter completely.

In the year 611, after years of slumber enforced by the Gods, She and They met to discuss Her fate. Armed with the testimonies of mortals both for and against Her, the Gods bickered and argued until She was presented with an ultimatum: She must decide between banishment into the Void or rehabilitation upon Lantra's healing mound. True to Her nature, Li-varili shocked Elders and mortals alike by choosing neither - She splintered, becoming the livari race, choosing both the freedoms and the hardships of mortality for the rest of time.

When She was a Goddess, Her symbol was a striking red bromeliad blossom.
