The Toymaker's Wife

The calm after the toys had disappeared was unfortunately short-lived,
for they came back, this time animated, organized and hostile. Hordes of
the toys struck several locations throughout the Basin of Life,
seemingly intent on focusing on commodities, such as the gold panned in
the Estengare River and even the wax of the kephera in the Undervault.
The Facility of the Gnomes sent Captain Girda Starhopper of the
Aethercraft Starhopper to help track down the cause of these violent
constructions. Apparently, the Toymaker was a well known figure among
the gnomes, considered an eccentric genius, who had disappeared ages
ago.
Offering a reward for the corpses of the animated toys, Captain Girda
Starhopper began collecting them and sending them to Professor Gargle
von Fixit, one of the top gnomish minds ever born. The Professor studied
the remains of the toys and tracked down elements that could only exist
in one place--a place quarantined by the gnomes ages ago: the homeworld
of the finks! Indeed, Newton Caverns were founded by gnomes who crash
landed in Avenchna's Peak in an effort to evacuate the finks from their
homeworld. (Apparently, the finks did not actually wish to be evacuated
which may have had something to do with the crash landing.)
In any event, the fink homeworld, called Mucklemarsh, was quarantined
and cloaked by the gnomes for so many generations generations that none
knew where it was located in the vastness of Aetherspace. Several
aetherships left on an expeditions to find the lost aetherbubble.
Finally, it was Captain Ilyarin Peulus of the Aethership Cloister who
found Mucklemarsh, with the help of his stalwart crew, Lawliet Letara
and Pectus Dawneye-Whytetower.
It soon became apparent why the finks quarantined Mucklemarsh, for a
gnome ship had already crashed there and succumbed to parasitic
creatures known as slivven who horrifically used the bodies of dead
gnomes. The slivven and the homeworld finks (much, much stronger than
the degenerate versions in Newton Caverns) were in constant war against
each other.
Delving deeply into the slivven compound, Ilyarin and his crew found the
Toymaker's Wife, who turned out to be some sort of grotesque
slivven-gnome hybrid queen. A mighty battle ensued, which was joined by
Ardmore, Ayrna and Veyrzhul, where the Toymaker's Wife was finally
slain. The corpse of the Toymaker's Wife was taken to Captain Girda
Starhopper who gave a handsome reward to Ilyarin.
Unfortunately, this was not the end of the saga, for the Toymaker
himself was still at large and the animated toys continued their attacks
upon the Basin of Life.
