Buried has been converted to a true elevation. This means many of the
bugs you all have seen with them are corrected. Here is a short list of
what else has changed with this:

If you are above the 5th level of buried you CAN be scryed, sent tells,
etc. If you are at or below the 5th level of buried you are for most
purposes considered off plane.

Items can now be buried BELOW the first level. This means you might have
to dig more than once to get it. Pay attention to the messages you get,
as they will let you know if there is something there.

The above goes for players, you may have to dig more than once to pull
them up from the ground. At this time, the players will have no idea you
are digging them up, until they hit the ground.

Geomancers wyrm will dig items and players up from any elevation to the
ground instantly, as they actually burrow down and grab you.
