Part III: The Storm, the Staff, the Song and the Light

Feeding off the winds of the First World, the swirls and twists of
corrosive air quickly grew into a wild tempest, a furious storm that
flared above the Serenwilde Forest, pouring acidic rain and smaller
manifestations of itself down between the trees, wreaking havoc. It
began with but a rain of snow-white ash, a loathsome, foreboding
snowfall of detritus that soon turned into an acidic, corrosive
downpour. It rained for many days, little more than acid and lightning
that struck fires, plaguing the commune. Soon the storm grew stronger,
spreading southward into the Inner Sea - quickly it worked, the dark,
angry clouds swirling about one another, forming into a furious
hurricane that sat upon the Inner Sea, howling and shrieking as it spilt
acid rain down upon the waters, turning the surface into an
acid-shocked, polluted wasteland. Dead dolphins, fish and turtles began
to rise all across the Inner Sea, their bloated and chemical-burnt
corpses bobbing in the poisonous waters.
Over a month New Celest and many members of Serenwilde such as
Galaphyrae and Sarrasri began to collect the corpses of animals that fed
off the pure waters of the Elemental Plane of Water, as well as those
elementals formed of it. With such, Manchal, the Aquamancer's tutor, was
able to craft crystals that held within them pure water from the Plane.
Laboriously they began to place the crystals throughout the Sea, each
one sinking beneath the waves as it found its proper place, weakening
the storm slightly. Soon, hoping to attack the storm directly, they
began to place the crystals within the coral spire of the Inner Sea,
which rested at the heart of the eye of the storm.
Worried that too much time had passed, and that any more would risk the
storm becoming too strong to stop, Manchal summoned the Pearl Staff of
Rushing Waters, passing it to Mariello Shervalian, one of the surviving
descendants of House Shervalian, those who had helped found the College
of Aquamancy on the isle of Old Celest. Placing the staff into the
spire, Mariello focused its energies upwards, assaulting the storm while
purifying the waters - soon the storm was chased away, dissipated upon
the winds of the First World.
Days went by in peace, though all could see the dark clouds and hear the
winds that lingered on the edge of the Basin of Life. Soon however,
Jarana Farain returned from Celestia, carrying five small chests, and
called the Celestines to her. Explaining quickly what must be done, she
gave to Aison the Light of Elohora, to Nydekion the Flame of Methrenton,
to Jasato the Love of Raziela, to Steingrim the Illumination of Japhiel,
and to Talkan, the Hope of Shakiniel. Each of them took to Celestia,
empowering the angels so that they might in turn empower the containers
in which each of these resided - blown glass globes, held aloft, that
sparkled and swirled with the energies of that which they contained.
Soon they finished, one by one, and placed them in the hands of the
statues in the Deep Blue Cathedral, each responding in kind.
As the trap was finally set, Jarana Farain called Shan, the Canticle of
the Righteous, to the centre of the Deep Blue Cathedral, where a ray
manifest from the very energies of Celestia itself had pierced the
skies. Taking up the Rosewood Lute of Celestial Rhapsody, Shan began to
play - but soon those gathered realized that it was not Shan's will that
plucked the strings. Alone in a dream-like realm, Shan found himself
comforted by none other than Rhapsody, who's Voice had fled beneath the
storm. Softly She sang, guiding his fingers with Her own, Her wings
stretching out behind both of them, and all those gathered saw them.
Soon however the wings melted away, and so too did Rhapsody's Lute glow
with a brilliant radiance, turning into a thousand motes of light that
drifted away upon the breeze.
Drawn by the sound of Rhapsody's song, the Tempest turned the full of
its fury onto New Celest, raging down upon the city with rain and
howling winds. Yet the City of Light was prepared, as were the Supernals
of Celestia - using the trap they had prepared, the Supernals and the
Star of Celest pushed the tempest down and into the Holy Lands of
Celestia, where it was met by the Supernals in combat. Splitting the
monster in half with a zealous roar, Methrenton and the others separated
the creature, pushing half away towards the mortals while dealing with
the other half themselves. Soon New Celest was gathered, raging and
screaming as the winds ate away at their bodies, slaying them in scores
- but soon the winds died, and nothing but the white detritus remained.
Sensing their opportunity, Torili, believed dead, and the spirit of
Tresalyne emerged from the rubble of the Celestine Seminary, causing it
to shift and destroy what was left within. Together they bore the chest
that had once imprisoned the howling winds to Celestia, capturing the
remnants of the now weakened tempest within it, before joining the fight
alongside the Supernals - only to seal away the storm once more,
Tresalyne's spirit casting the chest to the distant reaches of Celestia.
And so Saint Tresalyne of the Stars returned once more to combat one of
many manifestations that he had faced in life, alongside Torili and New
Celest. Jarana Farain, having found peace of mind, offered the artifacts
she had found within the ship to both Shan and Crystian - delivering to
them the mythical Celestial Bracers of Rhapsody and the lost Shell
Necklace of Eternal Tides, one said to amplify one's control over the
Song of Creation, said to have been coveted by Marani Veloske during her
life, even offered as a gift in exchange for her hand in marriage, and a
necklace of unknown, powerful origins, believed to enhance one's control
over the elemental vibrations of the Elemental Plane of Water.
The question had been posed many times, and Japhiel, Illuminator of
Merciful Justice, paused to explain to those gathered some of their
forgotten history. It was said that Saint Tresalyne of the Stars, who
first discovered Celestia in his search for a means to reach the stars
in the night sky, had once lead a group of aquamancers and Celestines
against machinations of the Soulless Gods, pieces of Their being that
were cleaved from Them, left to roam the world with a strange sentience.
This particular one, it was said, slew all that opposed it, even in that
last battle - except Saint Tresalyne, who cast the semi-sentient,
ravaging wind, created by the Soulless God Zenos, into the chest, which
was sent to be locked away under a perpetual guard, by order of the
Imperial Family of the Holy Celestine Empire.
