I always pronounced it with a long A. sort of like A-son.

That works too. Whatever floats your boat. Whatever shakes your bon-bons. Whatever fills your sails. etc.

Well, in every other IRE game I've played, I somehow always manage to make my name gender non-specific. I was rather tired of being referred to as a he, so I tried to come up with something fairy-sounding that was also feminine, but not girly. I think I accomplished what I was setting out to do.

Is it bad that I thought you were a male then? blush.gif
Abethor2009-01-09 02:18:59
Alysi - Hrm....for some reason I like names that start with an A.
And I like having more vowels than consonants.
And the name itself kind of sounds light and it isn't really hard to pronounce.
But I still get confused with being a girl. A lot.

There's a simple rule to naming your characters to be masculine/femenine :

If there's a vowel at the end, it's female. This works in 90% of the cases, and even if you hadn't noticed this before, you probably followed the rule anyway. Y's are still the iffy one. R's and O's are also iffy, no idea why.

With poor Nys being in that 10%. *consoles*

Ried came from a keyboard smash.
Reiha2009-01-09 03:25:47
Reiha:
Portuguese for Queen. Also, from Vampire Hunter Miyu.

And no, the H is not silent.

Iola means violet-coloured stormcloud. Partially I thought it was pretty, but it was also meant to go towards a chaotic fae type nature (funny how characters don't stay as planned wink.gif).

Tacita means silent one. I chose it because she is a head-down-and-work type, but now that she's a Harbinger and worshipper of Nocht it is also amusingly ironic and fitting respectively.

You should get a Raincloud hat!

I wanna play DND so badly, but I think it's banned where I'm from? Maybe? Like...not illegal to play, butcha can't buy it. The stuff for it, I mean. Like the manuals and stuff. I could be wrong, but I think that's what I heard.

Best version ever.

I still highly recommend actually purchasing those books, particularly the three core books, as flipping through a phisical book is INFINITELY easier than going through a digital copy. (Though the spell list has the distinct advantage of being able to be CTRL+F'd)

Aerotan came from a failed video game a friend of mine and I were planning. It was a wind-based character, so we used the word Aero then added tan to make it sound like a person, along the same vein as croatian or something.

Syridean is gaelic and means seeker, if memory serves. I pronounce it seer-i-DEE-en

Lesk is a modified form of the name Alex. God knows where I came up with it.

Tyrni was a random collection of letters I thought sounded cool. Pronounced TEAR-knee

Torre was originally supposed to be a Geomancer. Then I switched to Nihilist last minute during character creation. Pronounced like the past tense of the word tear.

Tande is another random collection of words. The e isn't silent, both vowels are short. It comes out rhyming with panda in an odd way.

Mine was supposed to be Shadeus, but I decided Shaddus sounded better.

So, why the attraction to Shadeus? Is there a story behind that?

Anyway, a looong time ago I took the name of Morpheus from Neil Gaiman's comic book series "Sandman." Also was the god of dreams from Ovid's Metamorphosis. Then this damn movie called "The Matrix" came out and Morpheus was impossible as an account name anywhere.

So... the mud that I played on had another person named Janalon who pulled shenanigans on everyone else. Hilarious. Managed to somehow hack someone who was scripting (before there was scripting back in '94 dialup). All I remember was that character's password was FROGSPANK21.

So, I've managed to steal that name. Funny enough, I never ever seem to have problems registering an account anywhere as Janalon... thus I like to keep it around.

No, it was right when the Magnagoran monks came out, I wanted someone dark and mysterious.

You know, shade.

Akui came about from wanting to make something with a bit of an African feel to it, and going by ear.

Turns out, there is a place in the Solomon Islands named "Auki", which I never knew until I saw Where the Hell is Matt.

It also turns out that there is some cartoon/comic site named Akui: ill-intent. I should try and get some comissioned art from them or something. It would be appropriate.

Edit-

It's also apparently a river in a water-community in Japan. (whatever that is).

And the last name of the first American to take a POW in WWII.

Also, google images gave me this a few in:

picture that I didn't want to jam in the post here

My character's name gets much more interesting hits than my real one. sad.gif

Same here.

Um, Hadrian just popped into my head. That's it. When I try to think of something, I always come up with icky names, and it's usually the ones that just pop into my head that I stick with. Hadrian came, and I thought it was perfect for the character (common and easy to overlook, kind of serious-sounding because of the initial H so people wouldn't bug me too much), so I went with that. Working nicely so far on the easy-to-overlook front, I think like five people in Lusty know me. happy.gif
