Why would most gamers be atheists? I'm curious as to how you got to that conclusion.

For starters we're principally modern young people. And we have a significant non-American playerbase, but we all speak English. Xavius might have something else in mind, but if we did have a high incidence of atheists (which I'm not sure about) that'd probably be part of why.

Positive correlation. In England, anyway. I would imagine it's the same in other countries but that's a risky assumption to make.

Comments like this are rather offensive. I don't mind atheists, unless they are rabid atheists (that would be due to their extremism, not their belief. I am a rather open-minded Christian (gasp!), and I don't judge people by their faith). I've also got a rather broad sense of humour, but this is not funny, if you intended it as a joke.

That is a quote from Nietzsche I believe, he does not mean physically dead. But rather that "God" as an idea is no longer capable of acting as a wellspring for moral code in modern thinking. Nihilism and Existentialism rose from that premise.

I don't mean to, actually. It's more that even the meaning that wasn't from that (which I can't blame you for not knowing) doesn't seem like it ought to be offensive, so I think you got a weird interpretation like "and Christianity should be" out of it.

Anyways, Shiri pretty much hit the nail on the head as to why divine command is such a ridiculous proposition here. Even if you do believe in a god, most of us have been taught from an early age not to believe everything you read, see on TV, hear from the stranger in the costume, etc. The primary determinates of ethics in this group are 1) a personal philosophy based in some fashion on growth, avoidance of pain, pursuit of pleasure, and justice, and 2) human law when subject to review and modification to be in line with point 1. The modern influence of divine command is pretty overtly evil. Religion serves little purpose in modern society beyond segregation and denial of universal human rights, seeing as how we all agree on the meaningful parts of what the ancients wrote down without needing to be reminded that even the practitioners of genocide thought that murdering people off the battlefield was wrong. What we get from religion in modern days is stuff like "sex is evil unless you're married," "gays can't be equals without making straight couples less special," and "abortion must be handled with an iron fist, rather than the gentle urging of a friend."
