I think it's a really fine line to tread between cute / funny, and lame / annoying (to all sides).

I don't even get why we have MagicMouth if all it serves to do is tick people off. >< I need to use that spell in my (well, now Zasha's) manse sometime just to mess with Ongaku's kids. :>

Sadly, the Wayfaire is peaced, and I believe that both programmed illusions and magic mouths are aggressive actions. Instead, the rooms are not identical - just nearly so! So you can still tell when you're on or off the correct path, and then just use trial and error, of course writing down the correct path as you find it.
