The Basin of Life is within a ring of mountains, which is a natural wall of protection from the harsher environments of the world. Indeed, these mountain walls were the only thing that protected the last surviving mortal races who gathered within the Basin of Life during the Vernal Wars while the rest of the world fell to the Soulless Gods.
